Yes, something that can fly waypoints autonomously. Great idea.

I was wondering when some one was going to think the same.
Pack it full of blow send it off 10 miles over the boarder at night and get it to loiter. Then another person takes over on a new tx and lands it.

Must get ticket to Mexico

Honestly, if you flew it (or set its autonomous cruise altitude) high enough, no-one would have a clue, even higher than line of sight, they wouldnt even see it cross over......... would they?

An X8 with wing extensions might mean you could cargo "aliens" across the border too (but you'd probably prefer to keep them out). So much less effort than digging a tunnel 100 metres underground!

Have been following Yves Rossy quite a bit. I mean the feats he's achieved with his Wing... not in the stalking sense! Must be great being him, fantastic invention, plus being THE man to just strap it on and go for a fly.

Still waiting to see him take off from land though - standing still, then WHOOOOSH and off he goes (rather than the boring "drop off the side of a helicopter" technique).

Those turbines he uses are originally designed for R/C!

last video i saw of his, he had some bigger more fancy looking turbines. definitely didn't look like they were made for rc as he was flying alongside fighter jets...

His engines are all coming from the same place and yes the main focus of the company that
makes em is RC turbines, of all shapes and sizes.
His wing still has zero control surfaces. Steered entirely by weight shift and hand/feet
movement. Personally, I think that's nuts.

Im thinking of going with 3 x 4s 3000mah lipos as I already have some for my other wing. I can get 30min flight time out of that one with2 of them in and a bit of gliding down from altitude would be great to get 1h flight out of this bird. daemon your the master of thermal fpv do you think this wing would thermal?

Does anyone know the weight of this wing? I didn't see what the recommended servos are either. I assume it just needs two?

Reported earlier in the thread that the X8 in one one of the vids was flying at 2.5kg (88oz) with 10Ah 3S battery.
Servo pockets are 40x40mm, so that's big enough for a standard sized servo.

Anything can thermal. But yes, given the wing area (80_dm^2 or 8.6_ft^2)
and 2.5kg AUW, it has about 10oz/ft^2 wing loading which is certainly low enough
for a pretty low sink rate and good glide. Assuming they haven't made
any mistakes in the airfoil, I'd expect it to be pretty efficient in level cruise,
but given its weight, it will take more juice to climb high with it.
