CNC equipment and CAD files?

I own a large CNC router that is used for my cabinet business. I'm wondering if it could be used to make some of these little foamies.

When guys are cutting these things out professionally, I assume they're using some sort of router, not a laser. Is that right?

If that's true, does anyone out there have some CAD files I could fool around with? I have no interest in getting into the aircraft manufacturing business, I just think it would be fun to screw around in the shop in the evenings.

Most manufacturing is either laser or CNC routed. theres plenty of plans in this thread that can be use. Vectric cut 2D opens PDF's perfectly and produces the required Gcode

I don't know how common it is, but a third option is high pressure water jet. This possibly gives the best results since the cut is so fine. A friend uses a CNC router and by all accounts it is a pain to set up because the tools clog easily.

Getting the speed of the cutting bit and the travel just right does take some playing. I believe that Donuts models were cut using a waterjet

I looked quickly at the Vectric site. Looks perfect. I'll have to spend some time researching when the workload lightens up around here.

This is my latest indoor build based on the Index3 in the plans thread here. Its now finished and been flying almost every day for the last three weeks.
It was milled using a 1 and 6mm dremel bits on my DIY machine. Just give the depron a spray of water to stop the bits over heating.

What kind of router is it? Do you know what kind of input files it takes now? I used to program for a large router, but it had custom "sign making" software. It could import a DXF file, though, which is a standard AutoCAD exchange type. I have AutoCAD and I'm good enough at it (still, after all these years, sniff..sniff) to convert pretty much any way you'd like to go. Let me know the specifics and I'll see if I can help you.
