ArduPilot Mega V2 Purple Kit

The guys over at DIYdrones have just released the information about the latest version of the Ardupilot Mega V2 board.

Basically the new board will be compatible with the current ArduPlane and Arducopter code, but is smaller, lighter and cheaper than the current Ardupilot Mega board.

The board is available for pre order at the USA store - Ardupilot Mega v2 USA

The board is also available from the UK/Europe distributor - Ardupilot Mega v2 UK

For full details have a look here, or here

I also found a good guide for configuration and assembly of APMv2 for arducopter

Less expensive, better performance, and smaller – I like it.

I definitely like the performance of those new sensors.

This sounds like the perfect winter project.

Really like the size of this version. Never could use the previous one due to how big and heavy it was.

Would like to see more size comparison shots of the two versions together. Looks like the same W/L dimensions but is definitely shorter so all those heavy pins don't have to be used any more.

Wish those pins didn't have to be presoldered. Guess it's ok if they are needed for the board to be tested before it's shipped.

One in order. A bit sceptikal to purple, but if it's even better then the red one, it might be good.

That is fine. but when it comes Plug and play version.
I did not buy because I find it difficult to schedule and adjustments.

I'm more of a blue PCB person myself but I'm kind of liking the purple as I look at it more and more. I draw the line at pink though, unless it can fly for two hours and operate from voice commands.

Any reason why voice recognition software can't be integrated?

Maybe after it no longer takes 6 to 8 weeks to get one. Too popular at the moment. It kind of is though. Doesn't look like much to put together other than the usual motors, props, ESCs, battery and power lines.

Does anyone have the dimensions and weight?

That should be one of the first things listed in the specification list.

I am not sure about the weight, but the size is about 2.6x1.6 inches. And I guss it will be much lighter than the current ardupilot mega board

Multicopters don't autorotate if that is what you mean. At least not the ones we use.

Build a custom one with helicopter rotors and you might be able to.

The firmware has a standard helicopter option so there is no reason that you have to use a multichopper.

I have one on order also.

Does anyone know what the time frame is for delivery? I am constructing my new airplane and will need to start making board mounting decisions in a week or so.
