Noob question about ESC/Motor connection

I just bought 4 turnigy plush 12 amp ESC's and 4 Keda 1050KV Brushless Motor (Hacker Style) motors for a quad. Both have 3 black wires coming out of each with no connectors, and I'm about to solder on some 3.5mm bullet connectors. On my other quad (Gaui) there are three colors, two of which I had to reverse certain colors to get the motors to counter rotate. The other motor (Pulso) I have on my other plane also has color coded wires.

Does it matter at all which wires on the motor connect to which wires on the ESC? There is nothing in the instructions helping me differentiate which wire does what. I was thinking I'd color code them with the shrink tube so I can at least tell which one is which, or is this a waste of time and as long as my motor spins the direction I want I'm ok?

It does not matter.
If you connect it up and the motor spins the wrong way (50/50 chance it will ) then simply swap any two of the connections between the ESC and the motor and it will run the other way.

Ok, thanks for the prompt answer! Out of curiousity, why are some motors equipped with colored wires then, and when I put together my Gaui is was specific about swapping x color with y color on two of the motors, when in fact swapping any two would have done? (this was the reason I was wondering)

The colours are handy once you know which way they need to be connected in a particular model.
If you disconnect them for service/repairs then you just have to remember if they can match or if you need to swap a pair. And swapping any two will work, not two specific ones.

They got a really good deal on black wire, the people that solder on the wires could be color blind, and don't know where to solder on colored wire.
