Not really sure. When I first got mine I didn't really test that. When zipping around the house I do a lot of turning while flying forward and when you do that the bird dives in very nice.

Later I tried outside and noticed if I tried to fight even a tiny breeze I couldn't go anywhere. And then I tested inside again and noticed if I try to just go forward w/o turning I would get that initial dip and then it would barely go forward at all. Then I noticed how quickly it would dive in reverse and keep getting it. It got me thinking about trying to adjust the bias more forward to balance out the bird. So far it's working pretty well, but I still have some minor tweaks I want to do once my new blades arrive.

I've seen people saying they have issue with FF speed.

I've also seen a ton of people mention leveling their swash.

I don't know if they're related, but I know that the travel for elevator is linked to that swash, and I've never had a level swash on my v911. When mechanically trimmed to fly perfectly with no trim, the swash naturally is slanted.

I wonder if the people with the FF issues are the same people with the level swashes? Which in turn reduces forward travel while increasing reverse?

Just a theory.

All the same but I'd get a blue/white or red/white as the Black/orange main blades seem to be a lot weaker than the white ones + the white ones are easier to see and better for led mods

I like the Red/White or Blue/White vs the Black /Orange. I just find it easier to quickly tell which way the bird is facing in a low lit room with the White body. I think this is really true when the bird is heading away from me.

I personally would start off with the v911! It's nimble and plenty of power! V912 is more of the intermediate 4 ch hobbyist. The biger that are the harder that fall. And the v911 is almost indestructible! Parts are cheap as well. Her is a link to get yea started!

im going to begin using a 4 ch and debating between the v911 and the bigger v912. from watching some how to videos it looks pretty difficult and i see multiple crashes in my future and if i buy the v912 im not sure it can withstand the punishment. Basically my mind says get the v911 but my ego wants th v912.

How about a RTF V912 ($62) and a BNF V911 ($20). That way you can learn on the V911 and crashes wont matter (as long as you reduce power before impact). Then move to the V912 when ready, which probably wont take as long as you think. You will have two great helis and you will get to experience flying both.

Easy. The transmitter that comes with the V912 is better than the one that comes with the V911 and it will work with the V911.

So, get yourself one V912 RTF and (at least) two V911 BNF. You will need batteries and a charger for the V911s. My preference is the Yellow or White V911 (we call it the Y911) from Banggood as this already has the carbon fiber main shaft and "fisheye" swash plate, but please note that the Y911 uses the old style battery connector. The bird is easier to repair than the WL Toys V911 as the tail boom is not glued to the frame and tail motor holder. Batteries are still readily available and there is no difference in the quality of the batteries, WL Toys just decided to change the connector. You might as well get yourself some spare parts (flybars, rotor blades, tail and main motor etc.) while you're at it, and an extra battery for the V912.

So, once you have all your birds and bits, it's time to learn to fly! Keep the shiny V912 on the shelf and use it's transmitter to fly your V911s. Once you can repeatedly fly a whole battery through a V911 indoors and outdoors without crashing, you are ready to move on to the V912. Remember that the V912 is a much more powerful machine and capable of doing a lot of damage. Don't fly it anywhere near people or anything valuable (like your neighbour's car) until you have mastered it. Think circular handsaw without a guard and flying around under your dubious control...

And, with all fixed pitch helicopters. Be ready to kill the throttle before impact. The most damage both to the helicopter and the thing you hit is always done by the bird hitting something with the rotor still spinning. Also, if the wind grabs it and it goes too high, kill the throttle and let it drop and then power it up again before it hits the ground. The V911 will take a (motor off) drop on grass from 10 meters above the ground without damage. (I'll give you three guesses how I know ... )

I'm still flying V911s, but there is a V912 in my near future...

Owen
