Yep, there are different grades of EPP with quite different densities.
I'd say Depron always makes for a lighter buid because it 's so much stiffer. EPP is more durable, but it only really starts to be viable for larger models, if you're trying for indoor flying speeds.
I've made a FlyingWings Bongo, without the carbon hoop, and their Mini Bongo (also with no hoop, but I can't remember if that was supposed to have one). I bent the front section of the wing into a curve, where it meets the fuselage, on both to make them stiffer. They both fly slowly enough, but the bigger one is slower (and a better flyer).
For anything smaller, I'd definitely go with depron for indoor flying. Even the Mini Bongo would be better if it was made from depron, but it would probably have been destroyed by now.
