Fyi - Watch those bullet connectors on these ESC's when you build these planes. I have received these planes where the bullets weren't plugged in all the way. They may vibrate loose during shipping and handling which can expose the connectors. This applies to all planes from any vendor.

Thanks everyone for your help. lesson learnd. From now on If I do buy a plane from nitro it will only be a kit. Then I can stuff my own juice in it. I bet I end up with a better plane that way :-)

Here's a pic of the Pitts that had the Battery explode. Parts of the battery were 10-15 feet away. It sounded more like a loud Pop!!

I replaced the speed control with a 60 amp from BP hobbies and added a castle BEC. The plane is excellent now, before the exchange the servos chattered and sometimes didnt even move when ask. Original motor and no more problems.

That is repairable. Use some light weight Spackle compound and Zinssers BIN alcohol based primer and acrylic paint and you will never know it was damaged.

Yup, I got it from a guy who didn't want to bother with it. He hit a tree also.
I'm gonna try one of these in it.

I haven't run my watt meter on the stock motor but the one you picked out should do the trick. Let us know. You may have to us a larger battery because it looks like it draws a few more amps than the stock motor.

Does anyone here fly out of Mobile AL? I may need to be there on a project for a few months and would love to be able to fly. I'm driving down from Nashville so should be able to fit a few planes in the car...(may have to leave clothes home) but I have priorities

I think I'll be working at the older downtown airport....Brookley aeroplex

Let me know if you allow visitors.....I am an AMA memeber.

Thanks

A lot of aerosol propellents melt foam so I do not use paint in aerosol cans unless it is Testors enamel like Model Master. When priming with Zinssers, I brush a couple of thin coats on and let it dry for an hour or two.... then I wet sand with 400 grit wet/dry sand paper to remove the brush strokes. Then I either use acrylic paint or Testors enamel paints and apply the paint with my airbrush.

Latex primer is not good to use, it doesn't stick to foam. That is why I use Zinssers, it sticks to anything and anything sticks to it. The only Zinssers that works is the shellac based primer.

I painted my Dynam PBY with Latex. Sticking just fine.

Anyone put a wattmeter on the Pitts? I'm wondering if a 45 amp esc will work.

It was already painted before you applied the latex, wasn't it.
