Julian, fill that void with some "pink stuff". Then glass over. It may cause for some trim issues at different speeds.

I was thinkin' the same thing too Fuzz. Already started on the finishing so I'm just gonna live with it. If it turns out to be a major issue I'll fill it in later.
The FF model had it in there so it shouldn't be a "plane-crashing-design-flaw".

I've used lite weight spackle before as well as Durhams putty. Never mixed them together before. The results are awesome.
About one tbsp Durhams to three handfuls of lite spackle and add water to your liking. I thinned mine about the consistency of cake frosting and brushed it on.

Julian, great build going, glad u liked the dirhams and lw filler. I thin the lw filler first then end up using about 50/50 mix of the thinned filler and dunhams,, works good for me. W

Do you use any kind of sealer over the bare balsa before adding the spackle/putty slurry on? It seems like a really wet slurry like that would cause all sorts of problems over bare balsa!

Yep, I used another one of Fuzz' tricks.
Sprayed the whole thing with some flat Krylon clear. Kinda medium coat, the wood soaks it up quick. Dries fast.
