3DHS 59" Slick On Glow

Hello ladies. I am going to do a short write up on converting the 59" Slick from 3DHS to glow. I am sure the first question is. Will the airframe handle the vibration and power of a glow motor? The answer to that is a very firm yes. I have converted the 47" Velox, 51" Slick and 57" 330SC and they have all handled the conversion great. They fly just like they were intended and just sound a little better.
OK so lets get on with it.
We will be using a Saito .82 for power on this plane.
A 8oz fuel tank and the recommended servos in this build.
HS5645MG servos for the rudder and elevator and HS225MG servos for the ailerons.

The first thing that needs to be done is to get the measurement from the front of the cowl to the firewall. Then we get the measurement from the front former to the firewall. We take these two and add them together and it should come to 240mm from the long side of the box. Make sure you measure to the firewall edge and not the overlap of the box sides.
You then need your measurement from your engine you are going to use. You will need to have it mounted or placed on the mount that you are going to use so you can get the total length of the mount to the thrust washer or spinner back plate.
You subtract this measurement from the 240mm total to get the amount that needs to be removed from the box. In my case it was 85mm from the front former where the mark would be.
Make a mark on the long side of the box then measure the distance from that mark to the firewall. This will be the measurement that you will use to make the line around the box to cut it. You will measure from the firewall back all the way around to keep the right thrust that was built in at the factory.
Ok enough with all the type. Now I can show in short type with pics exactly what I mean.

Well that's about it. Everything else is a typical glow set up as far as cowl holes and such. I did block off the left cowl opening and chin scoop to limit incoming air to the engine cylinder. I also added a low pressure divert-er to the hot air exit on the bottom of the cowl. Will have to get pics of this also.
Any questions don't hesitate to ask.

really great, can't wait for the flight report. Might make me braver with my Aeroworks Edge Sunday

It's got a Saito 100 inverted and never had any problems with the engine. I'm running the HS5645MG everywhere except throttle.

5lbs is great, my Edge weighs 7.2 with a 60" wingspan.

Does the Slick not normally have a pull/pull setup on the rudder? Or did you change it for balance?

Any chance of a video?

Thanks
Cory

Yes it is set up for pull-pull out of the box. I just didn't use that.
I used the other servo hole in the back for the rudder servo. It has two so you can put your elevator servo on either side. I did this to help with balance and it worked great.
I am hoping to get some video tomorrow if I can get my camera man out there.
