Flew again today, no video, sorry! I crashed it like 5-6 times I think. Thankfully, we have some VERY thick nice grass at the RC field and nothing happened. Props are holding up well, the frame too. Lovely little thing. Nimble, but stable enough to fly under benches, to cut grass with etc. Still need to tune it, didn't have time to do that today. I also need to put some red leds on it for orientation, after 15-20m or so you can't look away for a second or you'll lose orientation. That's what caused the crashes. :P

You should try heading lock, with magnetometer!
That would keep you always in control no matter where the quad is pointing, if you move your stick to the left, the quad will move to YOUR left, not the quad's left.
Hope you get the picture, if not google "heading lock" or watch this vid: http://ardrone2.parrot.com/ar-drone-2/absolute-control/ that besides the iPad, is pretty much the same effect.

Nono, I understand what you mean! I wish I could, but I only had a 4ch receiver on it at the time so all I had was manual control and nothing else. I moved the flight controller to another quad the other day, so this one doesn't have a controller at the moment. However, I received a KK board from Hobbyking recently and I'll put that on the tricopter instead. As long as I fly at the field I should be fine, the grass ensures that nothing will break in the rough 'landings'.

Id be careful with that headfree thing.
Apparently it goes out of whack if you tilt the copter over 15 degrees.

Also, Widelec, please respond to PM, you're starting to get me worried now.

Oh you run your business from an office, sorry mate. Thanks for the reply.

Cant wait to get my hands on that little tricopter.
In my experience those are still the best type of multicopter.
They tend to fly more fluid, especially with KKuk boards.

Some say they're inherently less stable because they have just three motors. I'm not so sure about that, mine hovers almost perfectly still in the air and feels very maneuverable. I think thursday should hurry up and get here so I can take it to the next RC meetup at the rc field nearby.

3 points is all it needs, or any conventional RC helicopter would have issues.
I like the tri because the tilting yaw is much more aggressive then a quad which relies on variable motor speeds.
Lets you whip it a little easier around the bends.

Mine doesn't yaw particularly fast, but I haven't tuned it yet or cranked up the RC rate. I'm still kind of new to LOS flying multirotors so I won't make it more responsive anytime soon!

As for aggressive flying, I recorded this the other day. (All FPV) I think quads can be more than fast enough, I don't think I ever need to go past 1.3 on the RC Rate, and that rate goes all the way up to 5.0!

00:34 and on in this video.

Heheh to do that it needs to do full banks to turn that fast,
so thust can do its thing rather then propeller momentum.
Pure yaw turns will likely be a bit less nippy.

Still, thats about as good as an FPV quad gets!
Dont try with a narrow angle camera!

Ahh, true that, didn't think about thrust -vs- momentum. Then I can see why tricopters would have a faster yaw, but I rarely if ever turn with the yaw only. I usually use a combination of the two. Banked turns all the way for me. :P

And no, I would never do that. I've always used wide angle lenses, even on my first FPV cam which came with a 30° view lens, I replaced that lens before the first flight.

Haha yeah, despite what people keep telling me, I love me a good fisheye lens.
I recently bought a 180' lens to see what that ll do.

With tricopters I bank most of the time, too,
but its fun to throw its butt up in the direction you're goin, for a quick reverse.
I bet with small ones like the bambu tri, it ll be maniacal to do,
but you'll need a damn good eye though.

Loops and so on...

holy moly!! this vid is great!!! Are you flying with glasses or monitor? and what mode is the MultiWII set? Nothing at all? so no LEVEL, PASSTHROUG(whatever this is) or so? I am still shooting around in LEVEL or ACRO (I guess this is set when nothing is activ in the config).

I don't know about other guys, but I absolutely hate LEVEL on FPV copters.
Its like someone has a bungee cord on your back, pulling you around.
Like one of those old coaxial helicopters, ya know?
