Libya's new 'purity'.

We've exhanged one maniac for a bunch of worse ones. Just as with the 'palestinians', fundamentalist Islamics are not stupid, they know exactly how to play gullible westerners by telling them exactly what they want to hear. And those willing to deceive themselves in their haste to be rid of one dictator have merely resulted in getting western democracies and republics to bomb in support of Sharia.

Quote:
Mustafa Abdul Jalil’s announcement last month that Islamic sharia would form the basic source of legislation in the new Libya, and that all laws contradicting the sharia were immediately null and void, came as a surprise for Western observers. Given that the chair of Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) wears the sign of his piety on his forehead in the form of the darkened “prayer bump” or zabibah created through vigorous prostration during prayer, it probably should not have.

Western observers had always been determined to see the anti-Qaddafi rebellion in Libya as a “democracy movement.” They were encouraged to do so by English-language NTC statements replete with soothing — if not indeed downright soporific — boilerplate that had undoubtedly been composed with the aid of Western advisers or PR agencies. But from the very start of the rebellion, clear evidence was available that the most fervent opponents of Qaddafi rejected his rule not as undemocratic, but, above all, as un-Islamic.
Libya (and most likely ALL of the 'arab spring') turns to fundamentalist Islam.

Goat,

You have exchanged nothing for nothing - as it's not your country!

Then why were we involved in the first place? We should just leave them to their own devices, let them figure it out on their own.

We need to heed that advice......because we are damned if we do and more damned if we don't.

Notice: Somewhat off-topic comment here.

One Libyan-born Jew (living in Italy, who tried to return to Libya after the 'revolution'), was the subject of enthusiastic anti-Jewish protests, and was convinced to leave Libya on an Italian military airplane.

Meddling Italians!

Looks like some Arab countries don't want any Jews living in their countries.
Libya currently has ZERO Jews living there.

It seems to me that over a couple thousand years, many countries have had such sentiments towards Jews.

I guess everyone as at one time or another, wanted Jews to just go back home, and then when the Jews do go back home, they all complain even more.
