1/18 Turnigy Racing Kart
I have one of the larger Turnigy Go-Karts, pics shown.
I see a lot of info and frustration on the 1/18 regarding motors and gears,. so I will tell you all what I will be doing,...I am going to use the motor and ESC off the Thunder Tiger KT8,...but the pinion in the 1/18 Kart kit..
The motor is an IBL 22/55-370C, 2mm shaft, 22.5mm diameter x 55.5mm length,..5500Kv. It has 2 sets of mounting holes, and one is 14mm. The bearing boss is 10mm diameter. So what I did was open the boss area just a little, to accommodate the motor.
Pitch is not an issue on these pinions they are the same.
The pinion having an I.D. of 2.3mm, and the motor shaft being 2mm in diameter, we have .3mm eccentricity.
This is really not at issue at this diametral pitch. It would be if the gearing was 64DP, but itís
48. Worst case scenario, the pinion spins eccentric at .012 of an inch, it is barely negligible.
Donít worry about it, make the best mesh you can, and tighten it done.
Also with the mildest loctite you have, do all screws that go into aluminum. Especially
the one that holds the idling gear assembly. Be extra careful on that one, not to over tighten, but, get it seated to the bearing races so it does not wobble, and let the loctite set.
If you are worried about the motor shaft and pinion not being concentric, dial the
difference in on your Calipers, you will see what I mean,Ö negligible!!
