The pod mount Pelican looks like a real hoot on the snow, I wonder if it could ROG off of wet grass, 'cause we don't get much snow here in San Diego?

The fuselage has a laminate covering--so it's fairly smooth. If you can get it moving it will pickup speed fairly quick, with a little up elevator and its off. I can't see why not. If you liked the snow video here is one I made. Yes, it's a real hoot!

Agreed. I think the albatross is the perfect beginning plane, and a good platform for AP, later on. And the cool thing is, once you move on to an assassin, or a reaper, you're not going to want to get rid of the albatross. You'll find it's still enjoyable for experienced flyers, too.

Jay, I live in Rancho Bernardo and mostly fly in a couple different local parks. My son and I just joined the SEFSD club so we can fly at their Alliant U. indoor events, and maybe occasionally at their South Shores field. I follow a lot of the CTH forums and have a lightweight slow-flying Scythe that my dog likes to chase and a couple other CTH kits I haven't found the time to build yet including a Pelican. The Scythe has been great and it seems like all their other kits are likely equally awesome, I just need to build more to confirm this.

My kit should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully I won't be missing too much to get it together. How long does assembly usually take for a novice?

It took me a few hours as an intermediate/expert with foam... but that was with FPV gear installation as well. I doubt it'll take you more than an evening, but it depends.

Sounds like the goop on the wings needs to set for a while anyway.

I want to do the pod setup. What point in the instructions should I skip down to that. As It says to continue with radio install/laminate after doing the pod

Goop -- a couple hours at most. Please post pictures so we can see your build. I'll never turn down a better way.

Is there an easy way to set my soldering iron to the 1/4inch depth?

Home Depot, Set Screw Collar (other hardware stores may also have them)

Watch Lees' videos of him cutting groves--he's very smooth and doesn't let the iron linger in one spot. (If you go to slow it will melt more than you intended. Its easier to go shallow with the first pass, move smoothly--the foam actually springs back a little. If you need to go deeper make another pass. Use the fiberglass rod as a depth check.)

Thanks. I figure I will need a trip to Walmart for the glue gun and goop, and home depot for the metal straight edge/square, wood dowel etc

I didn't even use laminate on the fuselage and mine flew fine. As long as you put some extreme tape up in the front it'll be fine, but it's your choice of course
