Just a few minor changes and suggestions we gotta relay to the factory.
Nothing big, I am quite pleased with how well and quickly this thing went together. I'll start posting the build thread soon. Maiden will have to happen before AZ Jets!

Does a 5000 mAh battery fit through the canopy hatch? This was a problem on the smaller one. Can you just tell the factory to put a radius on the inlets? I don't care if the inlet is too big for 90mm fans, I think it would look so much better with rounder inlets IMHO .

Man seriously this just looks very yummy.

The size is alright, but a 90mm Fan for this "sniper" is pretty cool.

The retracts look solid as well which I really like..

Hm......thoughts, thoughts...thinking....thinking...

What should I do when it comes for you?

man...just got done flying the prototype f20 on the jetfan 90 on 8s....ive really got the airframe dialed in and yhis thing flys awesome now! its a8s setup with about 2600~2700w and im guessing the speed is around 140 with nearly unlimited vert! ill try to get real video soon....

well well,very intresting,I hope this one is ready for my lonely 9305 and the 600-42 / 8S, 2x4S 4200 mAh Hyperion EX 45-90C.(to keep the weight down!)
the lighter the better...
And the boring blue is gone under the wing and stab...Nice!

probably when we get(if) a pre production varient with all the changes i made.

put 6 more flights on it...on my stronger packs with a good run, i think im closer to 150mph. the fastest 8s 90mm ive ever flown. performs every bit as good as the 8s habu ive flown....

Plan is to maiden early tomorrow morning before the event.
Had a bunch of flights (full scale) this week, so no time for mid-week maiden.
All or nothing tomorrow before the show starts!!!

I'm all packed up and ready to go; see you all bright and early!

Does anyone know if they've addressed the elevator/control surface issues from previous models?

This issue has been fixed for a long time now. It was only prevalent in the V1 model of the original Sniper 90. This new Sniper 90XL is much bigger, and fully composite... no control surface issues on this one.

Super Sniper 90XL Maiden = SUCCESS!

Alright!
The Super Sniper 90XL took to the skies for the first time this morning, just before the start of the 23rd Arizona Jet Rally!

Maiden flight was kept short, about 2.5 minutes, but she performed well throughout the entire flight envelope.

- Normal Takeoff w/ no flaps, gear-up and normal climbout.
Acceleration is very quick! A very slippery airframe for sure... was up on step by the time I finished my first turn for the downwind.

- First pass was kept high, testing Elevator and Aileron characteristics.
Elevator was more sensitive than I thought, so I flipped to Low-Rates.
Ailerons are VERY snappy and precise! Rolls like drill!!!

- Next pass I tested tracking and handling at High Speed.
Veeerrrrry niiiice! She tracks like a laser, with no dutch roll or yaw w/ roll inputs.

- Next pass I dropped Flaps and Gear. First notch of flaps was barely noticable, but allowed me to slow down to about 35mph. Full Flaps added a crazy amount if drag, but let me slown down to about 20mph before a Stall, which was straight-forward and very predictable... Rolled in the power, sucked up Flaps/Gear, and continued flying as if nothing ever happened!

- Final pass was a standard Gear Check to Landing.
Cross show center, drop gear (confirm down/locked), first notch flaps, and break 180-downwind. I kept her pretty high on the first approach, but it's no big deal seeing as AZ Model Aviators has 800' paved runway!
Dropped full flaps after established on final, and dropped the nose more to keep the airspeed up.

- Landing
I crossed the threshold at about 45mph (a little fast), but continued the descent down into ground-effect. The speed bled off quickly after flaring with full flaps, and she settled onto the runway beautifully!


Post-Flight showed nothing abnormal, and I re-charged the packs to tweak with the settings and send her up on her next flight!
I ended up flying the bird at least 4 times today, and each flight got better and better as I messed with throws and CG.

I really enjoyed flying the bird! Top speed on 10s w/ stock setup is about 140mph straight/level, and well over 150mph out of a dive!
Tomorrow I have the full day to fly, so I'll be getting alot more flights in!

Hey Vic,
It was nice talking with you today, thanks for taking the time to fill me in on the new Sniper. It really did fly nice, very stable, and much bigger in person. The only thing I would like to see are more color combinations, I know this is one of the first one's so maybe they can come up with a few more.

Move over Habu, there's a new Big Dog in town

HET have told me they are working on colour schemes, and I bet they would appreciate some input too, so what does everyone want to see?
