RSSI Digital in? What does that mean?

Hi guys,

I have an RVOSD5 and it says it accepts digital RSSI input according to the manuals.

What does that mean?

Thanks!

That means it will accept a signal from the receiver to produce a "receiver signal-strength indication" (RSSI) on the OSD.

Thanks for the quick reply man,

Does that mean I can directly connect my D8R-II Telemetry Frsky RSSI to the RVOSD5, since you said it's digital? Or do I need to convert it to analogue first?

If I have to convert to analogue, that would defeat the purpose of digital RSSI input right?

Anyone else here agree?

It's actually "Relative Signal Strength Index," least how I was taught, which means its basically just a changing voltage to represent the strength of the received signal.

Frsky RSSI is still analog, even it is PWM. It's another kind of modulation, but the unit is analog, the measure is given by a time period lenght, which is an analog unit.
Digital is when those pulses encodes a number, which is not the case for Frsky RSSI.
All you need to do to connect Frsky RSSI to any OSD is to smooth the pulses with a RC filter, as described here.

Thanks for the great reply guys! You guys really helped! An RC filter I guess I'll have to get. Actually, I was just making sure I needed one before I get it.

Question: Is this one good? And will this work?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FrSky-RSS...item1c1bba84d0

It's a bit costly, but I think it's designed for D8R series.

Thanks for both of you guys help man!

This was developed before D8RSP, now it's obsolete if you reflash the receiver with CPPM+RSSI firmware.

Hm, which exactly firmware is this? Would you please attach a link?

Sorry, was wrong, the firmware I wrote above bring only CPPM, not RSSI.
For RSSI you still need the ebay device.
Or, get D4FR, that outputs directly CPPM and RSSI.
Look here for a matrix of all Frsky receivers with their features:

RVOSD5 has three options for RSSI input, analog, digital and PWM.
The digital option will count the number of pulses over one second time period.
You can get more information about this on the rangevideo forum:
