30 inch span free flight rubber powered model by Len Ranson. From Model Aircraft, May 1961

We go this time to the July 1971 AEROMODELLR with the cover featuring a great photo of the delightful J..D. McHARD designed scale rubber GLOSTER GLADIATOR.

Next from Italy comes CARLOS VARETTO’S A/2 contest glider GRAN ZOT.

Carlos has considerable experience of top-line fling and said he designed Gran Zot for still air conditions. The plan is to 1/8th scale.

Finally to AIRCRAFT DESCRIBED with PAT LLOYD casting his expert eye over the ROLLASON BETA a popular sports/Formula 1 Racer.

Hi,
Going to June 1988 with AEROMODELLER. The cover showed LES PILGRIM and his Fox 29 powered control line Wrangler victor at the 1987 Vintage and National event in the UK.

Only one free flight plan to pass along from this issue and it’s XANADU.

Designed by KEVIN WALLACE Xanadu is an unorthodox X-Wing F/F model for 0.5cc engines of 293/4 inch wingspan.

Kevin said he designed it especially for the UK annual Howard Boys memorial event and had it finished just two days before it was due to take place.

Construction is conventional and the full size plan plus the accompanying construction article has all the advice you will need.

Hi.
We go this time to 1990 and the February issue of AEROMODELLER.

The cover photo shows a fine FLYING ACES NAVY PURSUIT tested and commented on by ALEX IMRIE in his regular Vintage Corner column.

Two indoor foam models were found both by STEVEN MIDSON published on the one full size plan.

The first, the attractive KOODHAVBEEN is a high wing cabin monoplane while the second model is a foam fun flyer the FP15.

All details will be found in the construction article and on the plans.

The third free flight model was the rubber scale biplane FIAT CR 32. By MIKE GREEN.

The Fiat CR 32 was an Italian Biplane fighter which saw more action then any other in the 1930’s and 40’s where it displayed outstanding manoeuvrability

Mike’s very nice plan certainly does this very attractive scale subject justice and he even suggests to double it up for a 0.08 cc motor.

Finally to AIRCRAFT DESCRIBED and to go with the Mike Green plan RON MOULTON takes a very detailed look at the FIAT CR32 with detailed scale drawings by IAN R STAIR.

Hi,
We go to the JULY 1970 edition of AEROMODELLER in search of free flight plans.

On the cover can be seen Dr ING. ALBERT OSCHATZ of EAST GERMANY winner of the 1969 Wakefield event.

The first plan to pass along is ISABEL a very pleasant powered sports Free Flight model by COLIN READ.

Colin said he designed Isabel as a conventional model being both easy to build and easy to fly for .5 to .8cc engines.

Wingspan is 39 inches. There is a full construction article and the plan is reproduced to 1/6th scale.

Next to KALIN’S CHAMPION WORLD RECORD HOLDER where it came out tops in it’s class in the 1970 indoor events held over six rounds in a Romanian salt mine.

Finally to AIRCRAFT DESCRIBED and F.PAWLOWICZ takes a detailed look at the MORANE SAULNER 35 EP2.

Included in his fine scale drawings is the sometimes hard to find sparsely equipped cockpit information.

Going to the December 1970 issue of AEROMODELLER for free flight plans.

The cover showed WALTER REGER’S colourful Boeing P-26A which he entered in the World Scale Championships.

GURU an attractive 40 inch span sports model by W.I BARRETT was the first model to be found.

He said his design was an attempt to produce a strong model capable of taking a range small engines and having a slow stable flight pattern.

The article has all the details. The plan was reproduced at 1/7th scale.

Next to a full size free plan for the AM1 an A/1 contest glider by A.BROCKLEHURST.

This is third in a series of designs by the designer and incorporates lessons learnt with the first two.

He said in the construction article that your chances of hooking a thermal are improved by knowing the model well and getting plenty of practice.

Finally to AIRCRAFT DESCRIBED and P.Lloyd casts his eagle eye of the SPINKS AKROMASTER

To the NOVEMBER 1950 AEROMODELL where the cover features a RUPERT MOORE painting of probably one of the most well known sports power designs of all time the TOMBOY by VIC SMEED.

In fact it was one of the plans featured in this edition. It has already been posted by RCHOPPER56 here. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...265873&page=11

But I thought the original and detailed build article from this issue would be of interest to those who are going to make their own TOMBOY.

It is, as was often the case in those days very detailed and includes how to make the float conversion.

Next to an unusual model the XERNES by L.C.HARRIS.

This is a real seventy seven inch flying wing Sail Plane. In fact this flying wing is just a mmmm…… Flying Wing. Plan is 1/5th scale.

It would be a lovely sight to see it slowly circling over head on a warm summers day.

The article on the Xernes shows the designer, Mr Harris with another of his designs. Would anybody know what that one is called?

The month is March and the year 1970 with more plans from AROMODELLER.

The cover shows a ROLLASON CONDOR light trainer tourer with three dozen flying in the UK at the time.

The first free flight plan was for a rugged high performance A/1 Glider with an impressive record in local contests.

It’s COLIN MORRIS’S SPANISH FLEA a quite simple model to build for those who have built a few of similar design..

Colin said he designed it in a final attempt to have a model that towed well on the line. The plan is 1/6th full size.

Next to details of JOHN GARD’S WAKEFIELD design from America. It seems the model is an exceptional performer with John preferring a long motor run to eliminate the necessity of auto-tailplane and rudder.

Finally to AIRCRAFT DESCRIBED and D.BRYANT looks closely at the airplane on the cover the ROLLASON CONDOR.
