Yeah, I thought you would still be feelin' the love from the Laser on 5S. I think so too, about Doc, but we won't see it unless a Torque comes out for the 48's that can manage the setup. You have to remember that the main reason we ended up on our own thread was because of what was considered 'techno-babble' confusing those that couldn't read the stuff without their heads exploding. It's implied that it is the stuff that makes sheep scream, which is pure irony... if you think about it.

I can say that without getting a point, right?

Only difference being that you charge as two 4s packs in parallel (meaning a 6s charger will do the job).

Having said that I don't suppose there is much advantage with going to 8s. The only good case for it would be if you had lots of 4s 2200 batteries, which should be just about ideal to make up a 8s pack.
I believe you meant "2 x 4s batteries in series" gets you 8s.

Two 4s 2200 packs in parallel become a 4s 4400 mah pack.

No, but I buy a lot of them. Between Tom's planes and mine, over the past 18 months, I think we bought two Turnigys (won't do that again), three ExceedRC (won't do that again), one Reaper (can't do that anymore), two Omega (won't do that again), 4 DM2820's of various Kv's (love them), one Torque (a real powerhouse but just disappointed with the prop options), 3 DM4315-480's (1 for the 60 Edge and 2 for friends and we all love them), and then 2 Hacker Q80's for the 85 inch Extra and the 101 inch Laser 200. Jury is still out on the Q80's. The 7M is a 10S 28 pole motor, perfect for planes up to 17 pounds, probably, and the 6L is a 12S motor good to 26 pounds, I would say. There is a video of Joe S flying a 28-plus pound 103 inch 330SC with that motor and it is visibly under-powered on the plane slated for a 100-111cc engine. It puts out about 8.5 to 9 HP.

605Kv on 4S with a 13x6.5... Are you not running your 600Kv Motrolfly on 5S with that same prop? They also list 40A... so 40A x 15.4v = 622W. Not only that, but you need a 100% Kv efficiency to get 622 Watts at 40A, and that's something I've never seen before. What am I missing?

I'm going to guess (by cheating and doing the math) that a 605Kv motor on 4S will not do more than 8000 RPMs on its best day.

I'm getting 770W on my 638 with a 14x8.5 at 50A on 15.4v. Lowering the Kv by 30 and lowering the prop diameter and pitch can only mean less power, less thrust, less torque, less pitch speed... am I wrong?

Ah... you may be talking about the 720... I had not seen that motor and like what I see on their site. 14x7 on 4S with the 720Kv is what we've been talking about all along as the perfect match for the 48 EXPs. When did they come out and why was I not told?

AP. I am a bit slow sometimes. Why is it ironic that this stuff makes sheep scream? Do you mean that sheep tend to babble and our babble makes them scream is ironic? Or is there some other joke I am missing?

Inquiring minds want to know

I have a rocket series motor 3025 850 kv that I am using. It is heavy, but the plane needed weight in the front anyway. It is working very well, but it didn't come with a shaft collar with set screw (I put one on anyway).

My omega has worked very well. I have three more not yet using. My torques at 48" and 60" all work well, and I don't need prop options since the props I am using works fine. The torque MKII is awesome so far, and allows up to 16x8 on 6s, but I only have about a dozen flights on it. I just had a turnigy SK3 go out and I won't be buying those again for 3D application, though I have one more I am going to use until I get a better alternative.

I haven't gone bigger than 60" wingspan yet but if I do I am thinking about going gas.

You mean the 2812/720?

That motor has been around a long time. But it is 180 grams....

Not sure but Gary pointed it out to me one day. The size specs say it should handle 5s and 13x6 (its way heavier than the 820 and its a lower).

External dimensions are not listed so it could be a lonv motor instead of wider.

I have been running the Motro 2815 custom wound to 700 on a 14 x 7. It is only 123 grams so that coupled with a Gens Ace 2500 4s has given great performance. The lighter weight seems to work out well.

But I own a Torque 2814/720. It is 180 grams. I wonder if I should swap into that motor???
