Nice, what size/brand ESC are you running?

I'm using the 50a ZTW, its SUPER light (32g), and seems to get more of the amperage from the battery to the motor than many other ESCs out there.
You can get one here: http://www.quantumhobby.com/ZTW_50A_...ztw50asbec.htm
(I run ZTW in ALL of my planes now, from 48" to 74")

unless you in a big hurry, they restock these ESCs every 2 weeks or so. I think they routinely sell out, as I've had to wait to order mine before also.

60 amp is what I run on my 14x7 750, I come in at about 50amp at 8800rpm.

So here's a question, my laser is on order and I have a sk3 35-42 and a kforce 40amp. I plan on using an apce 12x6. The kv is 800 and I plan on going 4s. The esc is about the size of the of a plush 40amp.

I'm trying to go for a light setup on 4s with this but from what I remember this combo pulled about 42 amps. I tend to fly high energy so I am kinda doubting myself with this setup.

Opinions?

I got an SK3 3548 700kv a week or two back and I've been very impressed with it. it seems well up to the standard of top brand name motors.

The 3542 800kv should go fine with a 12x6 prop and i suspect you could get away with a13x6.5

Looks a bit long, Steve. What's it like in comparison? Nice price.

The SK3 3542-800kv is ok for the 48" EXP but yes, the 3548 is too long.

Data for the SK3 3548-700kv:

I checked the kv and it came out at 698kv.. so I'll call it 700
Watts= 929
Amps= 60.7
Volts= 15.3
RPM= 7650
Thust= 3.5Kg

15" is somewhat over-proped, but the motor seems to cope ok albeit that the WOT efficiency probably takes a hit. I also tried the 15x6 xoar but that was a little slow in flight. I still need to check if I've any stator to magnet contact, the SK3 has a little c-clip holding the rotor on in addition to the usual collar. The c-clip is a pain to remove otherwise I'd have checked it already.

Its also way heavy for the 48's.

I ran the 35-42 with the 12x6 on a 50amp wsc with great success. Now I am dropping down to a 40amp and I am somewhat concerned as I may go over there 40amps at the beginning if the flight.

That's still a lot more RPMs than I got on the 15x6 I tested on my 638, but that prop to 7650 is still only 563 Watts-out so 366W consumed and 23.9A... and a slow 43.4 mph, but I'll bet you can hover around like a Blade 500 with that prop on a 48.

Did you feel the torquing when you throttled up with that prop? That was very pronounced on the Edge, along with the heat, so I took it off after one try. I was more worried about the motor box than about the motor.

It could have been the angular momentum because a full throttle pull-out also caused a vectored pull at what seemed to be 90 degrees. Running the numbers... to stay below the same 'L' as we calculated with the 14 and 13 inch props, we need to stay below 6050 RPMs on the 15x6 APC.

Just been out and put 4 batteries through my Edge with the repaired DM2820-750 spinning the Xoar 13x7...
Not great news I'm afraid. The Loctited bearing tube to rear mount joint came loose on the very first flight. The only positive thing is the recessed set screw modification made sure that the tube was never in any danger of pulling out. I was confident enough to put three more batteries through the motor and the play didn't get any worse. Regardless of the set screws holding it together short term I cant keep using it like it is because the set screws will work loose eventually. Re-Loctiting is not worth doing because really I couldn't make any better job of it than I did last time. Either I'll have to drill and tap the rear mount and put in extra couple of set screws at 3 and 9 o-clock positions to lock the bearing tube positively in place, or sadly the motor will have the be declared 'taost'

I bent the shaft on my L3020B. I ordered a new shaft and decided to try another motor. I got the NTM 4238 750KV

Im gonna run it on 5S and a try a 13X5 and a 13x6 prop. Ill try not to let the magic smoke out.
Model: NTM Prop Drive Series 42-38 750kv
Weight: 169G
Kv: 750rpm/v
Max current: 55A
Max Power: 403W @ 12v (3S) / 785W @ 15v (4S)
Shaft: 5mm
ESC: 60A
Cell count: 3s~4s Lipoly
Bolt holes: 25mm
Bolt thread: M3

Prop Tests:
13x10 - 11.1V - 344W - 31A - 1.79kg
13x10 - 14.8v - 740W - 50A - 2.8kg
14 x 6 - 11.1V - 403W - 36A - 2.23kg
14 x 6 - 14.8v - 785W - 53A - 3.05kg

They also sell the Carbon mount for the motor. Now Ive broken 3 motor mounts and if this one has the 25mm inner holes and 50mm outer holes, it will fit all the other motors and the mount.

For $4.50, its a bargain if it means I wont break any more mounts

Sweet carbon mount CD.

OK guys, now the flight update on the Torque motor and various props.

I tested in flight today the Vox 13x6.5, Vox 13x5, and apc 13x4.

First flight with the Vox 13x6.5, now the spinner is balanced it feels heap more pick up in the thrust. Very stable harrier, both upright and inverted and hover very easy, less then half throttle.
APC 13x4, quite surprising it was quite punchy, I didn't expect it to be like that but it felt very revy, sounded revy and pick up was a lot quicker than the V13x6.5, although the plane acceleration was not as fast. Also felt like plane top speed was a little slower.
The apc 13x4 felt better in pop tops and tumbles but makes a hell of a lot more noise then the V13x6.5.

Vox 13x5, once again a surprise, but in the other direction. Didn't like it, the prop made the plane feel sluggish, didn't accelerate as hard as the other two props and harriers and hovers were a lot more tricky to control. Vertical performance a lot worse than the V13x6.5 or the apc 13x4 in MHO.

I guess, my favorite now is the Vox 13x6.5 on the 820kV motor and Turnigy 40C4s2200 cells.
I'm set at 6minutes on the timer and came down at about 71% used mA.

I'll run this way for a while and extend my timer in 15 sec intervals and see how things look and where I feel the lipo start to sag.

Currently at 6 minutes there is zero loss of punch in the lipo that I can feel, probably the 40C holding up pretty well so far.
