What do you think the total cost will be when it is ready to fly?

I really want to expand my fleet with one of those. Thanks

I just paid $42.00 for the kit, $32.00 for servos and then whatever engine you want to put in it. I'm installing my Himax 2000 engine and it was $50. And a couple of bucks for wire and horns, so like $125-$130, not including receiver.

Sorry, my servos were only $3.00 each, so I spent $12.00 on servos, not $32.

I thought you did the math wrong but was happy to get the info so i did not say anything.

Where did you get the kit from. The last communication I had with a Chris Klick who was selling them in October had the base kit for $130, cam box for $35 and the clear lam film for another $35. By the time i added the servos, engine, bat and motor i would easily hit the $300 mark.

I thought you were asking about the SkySurfer. I paid more than $300. because i had it built to my specs and paint job, plus added an upgreded motor. But I still paid way less than what he charges.

Well since the last 2 days have been windy and rain threatening, I took the time to twist all my wiring, make it much neater in the fuse, and adjust my landing gear (I had it a little too much aftward and it wanted to nose to easy on take off).

Hopefully now take offs will not result in nosing it anymore and the twisting of the wires hopefully makes some improvement . Tomorrow assuming the wind and weather is friendly FPV flight #4 will commence .

Nice flying Guy. I would be so scared of hitting a pole or something the camera did not pick up.

Do you think someone will come out with an InfraRed camera small enough to put on an RC for night FPV flying?

I know that Flir keeps making their hand held cameras smaller and smaller but still too heavy for these platforms.

No. I would like to build a ZII someday but the cost is very high even without the electronics. I have not found anyone else that sells this platform except for RiteWingRC or the BlackSheep Team. Although theirs is in the 4 digit $$$$ category so way out of my league.

You can get it for $450.- built, painted, ready to fly and shipped if you know the right person. That price does not include any fpv gear.

But lets keep this forum for the Sky/Bix planes. PM me if interested.

Video cameras usually see quite a bit of IR. I test my IR remotes by looking at them through a camcorder. You can see the IR as red.

Hmm. I didn't think about using a small security camera like that. I have a few larger ones around my house with about a 30M IR range but they are very big and heavy.

So the backup camera that you mention can be it to FPV hardware to help you see objects at night while flying?

Sounds interesting. Thanks

as a matter of fact ... the HK 16$ camera does magics in the night.
i can use it without fear.

take a look at this video, you can see the sky is lit but when looking out off the goggles .. it is as dark as hell ...

@ 1:30 minutes for instance .. it is so dark i can't see the plane right after letting it go of my hand. ( i had no leds then .. )

night FPV 2-1-2012 (4 min 20 sec)

Would an IR camera pick up a cold metal pole at night? Infrared picks up heat and if the pole were the same temperature as it's surroundings would be nearly invisible (1st & 2nd Gen IR). I have friends that fly Medical Helicopters and they use Night Vision (Low Light/Star Light) equipment, having found IR to be unreliable. I believe that only Active IR would work for this purpose and it uses LOTS of power.
