Ok onto a serious question...

My Bixler will be here End of next week, my first real RC airplane (Well I had a control line plane when I was a kid... but that was a long time ago ), and being a novice to them I am curious as to what are the best things to do when I first get it?

To start off with I am getting the ARF Package from HK, which includes 2610 motor and servos, For ESC I chose Turnigy-AE 30A ESC, I have 2 1300 3S 20C Battery. I also ordered nylon pinned hinges, better control horns, as well as other connectors and misc hardware for various things.

For Receiver I will have an 8 Ch (I eventually plan to do FPV), so I will most likely have ailerons on separate channels, and I do plan on doing a nav lighting with servo switch too .

Oh I also ordered a 6x4E prop as well. I noticed a lot of people put extra re-enforcing CF tubes/rods/etc into various places, as well as various other things, I am pretty new to the RC Hobby world so I am not sure what else I should have / do to make things go as nice as possible.

Thanks for any input .

hi

there are various mods that you "can" do .. but none of them you "must" do ...
i say just tape the fuselage parts and go flying !

you'll see what you need and what you are lacking as the time goes ...

the CF rods are meant to make the plane stronger .. but this is due to making it heavier .. if you keep it simple .. and keep it light .. you don't have to worry about that ...

single battery is way tooooooo short
if you want FPV, i would say get some 2200 / 3s packs.

go have fun !

thinking about it ... you must NOT glue the wings together and you don't want to glue the fuselage parts together ...
keep your options.

I agree with Guy1a. Very little that you "have to do". With the small batteries you will probably need nose weight but I would still take the washers out from the front. You could tape them together and drop them back in with a string attached for easy removal. I also like the Heavy Duty "velcro" for holding the wings together. Just don't do any high speed dives or high G maneuvers with the stock spar.

First FPV

I've posted a couple of LOS videos, but this is my first attempt at a real FPV flight. Yesterday, I flew just LOS and peaked at my monitor and flew a little a couple of times, and landed with the monitor on the last loop. Last night I got on Google earth and planned out a route that was 1 mile out to my left, then back across me about a half mile away and then out to my right a mile, and then back home again. Then today I went and did it. I was so nervous you would have thought "my life" was on the line, and not just a couple of hundred dollars worth of plane. It was very fun. I am going tomorrow and try to video a new Golf Course that is almost done. -- JOHN
