I finally glued the tail of my Bixler last night. I glued the tail only, to a couple of cm past the vertical stab. I'll tape the rest so I can still access the insides.

I found that the left half (viewed from rear) of the fuse was molded 1mm lower than the right where the hori stab connects. I'll post a pic when I have time tomorrow. So the stab would have leaned to the left if I'd just stuck it on and trusted the joins to line up correctly. I put a tower of coins under the stab to keep it level with the main wings while the glue dried.

I also replaced the motor with this one. It fit on to the stock wooden mount but I had to cut the "ribs" out of the inside of the motor hole to allow it enough room to spin freely.

Just a few small mods to go and I'll finally be up and flying.

I had plans on installing a 4 mm rod into the stock 6 mm to reinforce the wings. But I heard others that did that also had both split on them in a crash.

So instead of a carbon tube i found out that others have used a metal tube or wires to reinforce the main carbon tube. I cut a piece of #20 awg wire a little longer than 5 times the length of the rod. I then folded it 4 times and twisted them a couple of times. I then used the extra length (about 4 inches) on both ends to wrap the larger wires together. This got me a flexible stranded wire tube. I made sure the diameter of the wire tube was less than the ID of the 6 mm rod. Slide it into the rod and glued one end so it would stay.
It might not increase the rigidness of the wing support but if that should crack the stranded wire should maintain its form and not allow the wings to fold up.

The good/bad news is that i haven't crash tested it yet but i have high hopes it will not allow my planes wings to fold coming out of a loop.

Anyone using flaperon setup? If so what do you recommend, and do you do elevator mixing at all with it? Any benefits to it with this plane?
