In Europe, they are limited on the number of cells that they can use. They can't even sell packs larger than 7S. In the U.S (and the rest of the world), the better choice is to go with higher voltage and lower amperage. This is neat setup, and it jives with what we have learned from our years with working with the 127mm fans - larger is better. A 8" fan generates 40 pounds of thrust at a bit over 18,000 RPMs. FSA is always going to be a problem though - you need a lot of available air. I can see the larger setups working very well in nacelles. Picture a Meibo A10 with two large fans.

Man these would look good , and probably sound good, in a scale 777-300ER. The blades look like copies of GE90 blades.

It's the packs that are holding us back.

They will come, all we can do for now is keep the weight, amps down and good throttle managment
I don't think it's the packs holding us back at all? We have 65C cells and can get capacities up to 10,000 mAh as custom made packs with no problem, it's the ESC's holding us back, and suitable fans/motors that can handle 16S, 18S, etc...

There you are bud! good to see you around Jack
The power it there for sure, I just feel that for that kind of power you need to carry 10000 mah at least and it's just to heavy.

Once we have 10000 mah packs that are as light as 5000 mah packs then it will be great... but we are getting heavier than turbine planes with no fuel to burn off with 10000 mah. Not worth the crappy wing loading to me

but it will get there and I do agree the ESC and motors aren't there either for that kind of 17.5 kw power

I don't even trust 14s... I'll give it time and stick with trusty 12s setups and 5000 to 6000 watts.

I was not aware of such a limitation. The most I've seen was 14s and that was the voltage limit for the ESC.

That's for full membership of the RC Jets forum on the other site, not the EDF forum here. Big difference...
