Are you 'left' or 'right' or 'American

Seems that there isn't a thread on here that doesn't quickly degenerate into the usual 'left' v 'right' diatribe in pretty short order.

Are there three sorts of Americans these days - Liberals - Conservatives and Moderates, or is the country pulling as one to reduce the deficit and get back on its feet?

It's not the right vs the left, its the right vs wrong. The moderates are the spineless who can't pick sides.

Too may pigeonholers around here. I'd prefer to think independently. That's not spineless by any definition.

Agreed...otherwise one is likely being steered, whether they know it or not.

When you allow others to make decisions without your involvement, .. you ARE being steered ..

When others manipulate your non participation , .....to further their own plans, you are being steered and conned.

What a powerful statement. A sheep leading sheep always end up in a world of trouble.....battered, bruised, hungry, thirsty, and in the end ravaged by their own ignorance.

Then along comes a good shepherd with a long staff in a strong RIGHT hand.

To claim "independent thought" and interpret that as being "moderate", you are very much pigeon-holing yourself as a person who has a spinal malady.

You see, everything stems from your most basic functional concepts and precepts of morals and ethics.
If you are consistent and not confused about yourself, then your entire worldview must fit in with whatever your moral and ethical base consists of.

If you end up on opposite sides of similar arguments, then you have to trample on your own deeply held beliefs, morals, and ethics.
People who are "moderate" are those who choose intentionally to disregard their own morals and ethics in favor of expedience, and when you do that, you are following the cliche' of "the ends justifies the means", and when you allow yourself to be in that group, then you have lost all moral and ethical anchors.

I have no argument that a person can and should be an "independent" thinker, but that only means that you are open to consider other positions and weigh those considerations within the existing framework you live by.
But you don't have to change your position to prove you are open minded, or compromise your position to be open minded.
Being open minded means that you are able to explain exactly why those other positions are foolish or selfish or morally debased, and you do that by means of considering those positions, not jumping back and forth between them.
