Wilga

Now that's an interesting plane. I 'm interested in them myself and was trying to figure out if I can go electric on it. I was talking to someone overseas said that it uses a 20-12 prop. Need to find an electric that can turn that at the proper rpm's. Anyone have some ideas on this? Always interested in some good ideas. Thanks

if you are talking about the 3m Wilga, your motor setup swinging a 20x12 will be not efficient enough for towing. I would be happy to get more into details either via PM or a separate thread

no problem, but let's keep this thread on focus and either open a new thread on the Wilga or do it via PM

If you don't mind a new thread on this might be nice. There could be allot of people interested and have allot of good info.

Hi guys, I've just set up two very usefull mixes when towing with the Ka8, 10% down elevator when Aerotowing activated through the tow release and 10% down elevator when you open the airbrakes, were now almost doing touch and goes while on tow! The mixes now means you can tow the model hands off and removes the "POP UP" when you open the brakes and stops the anoying high tow due to the wing location in relation to the tow point.

cheers Rossco.

Thanks Rossco! Can you explain the down elevator on tow a bit more. I stumbled onto to using down elevator on tow with my Let Minimoa. Without this mix, it used to wallow side to side on tow, almost as though it were stalling. With the mix it tows as straight as an arrow. Never understood why.

I think when you are being towed, you are flying faster than normal cruising speed of the glider, thus generated more lift than usual(on the slower draggier model). That will make the glider climbing behind the tug. With the little of down trim, keep the glider from ballooning.

Just my theory, and I am sticking with it, for now.

Hi guys no problem, if you look at the angle between the tow release In the nose and the centre of gravity I your starting to aproach the angles for winching so the model begins to kite for altitude, I've noticed parasol winged gliders do this such as SG 38 (the full size winches from the nose release, I think I rember someone saying 1-26's do also)
That's my theory anyway, but it works and works well. Well be working on some video soon.

Phoenix K8 b 6 m

Hi .. K8b is a wonderful glider especially in thermals. I has about 40 hours of flight time in a full size K8 b in our gliding club / FSFK Sweden. It makes me happy that there will be a larger model of K8b in the market for a good price.
Now it seems to be very difficult for many people interested to buy this model, especially from Staufenbiel Germany!?
I have some measure of data and images on this K8 b 6 meter version for those interested.
Received information from the Phoenix model that airfoil would be HQW 3 / 10% but it is not true? . Rather HQW 3 / 15% when the profile height of the thickest part is 80 mm. Rotchord is 523 mm, wing tip approximately 195 mm .Wing Pipes are 2 pieces of Aluminum and is 32 mm radius. Carbon rod is 2 x 12 mm and 1 m long in the fuselage. For attachment of the wing tip is the carbon fiber tubes 12 mm, front one-meter, rear approx 50cm.
The inner wing is 1670mm long, the outer wing is 1210 mm long.
A total of about 2880mm. Ailron 905 mm long, width 85 mm. Stab is 1105 mm span. Innerchord 340 mm, Tip 200 mm about 29 dm2. Total wing area about 236 dm2.
An approximately CG point 170 mm from the leading edge (1/3 of meanchord) Estimated ballast in the nose 2000 gr.Can be different for different models, I guess! Which means that you can have 2 large battery pack easily.
I think that a flight weight of 14 kg is too low especially at a little more windy conditions. Have done some calculations and would think that a flight weight of 16-16.5 kg ideal about 67-70 grams of wing loading dm2. Purely in terms of scale, would it work with a wing loading of up to 75 gram/dm2 Though there are only theories.

Sincerely, Robert.

Hi Robert the KA8 could use some ballast for heavier conditions, perhaps 2 litres (2 KG) of droppable water ballast would work well. At the lighter loading she really is a floater!

Yes it was a good idea: It is easy to solve when there is much room under the wing of the body. Okay, if one should be careful with scale appearance so it might not be smart to drop water on any judge Hahaha. Yes in weak thermals are K8b (full size) is outstanding.
