E-Flite 25-46 Electric Retracts Burnout on my Spark!

Hi Guys

Today I was at my friends place to puts the Spark together and he did so far some very nice progress.

As we went to finish the day up to the main gear retracts..we tested them going in and out a few times like we did once before..

However for some strange reason 1 main gear retracted slower then the other..and that got us thinking...

Once after another 4-5 cicles, it was retracted into the wing and did not wanted to come out anymore...but the other did...

Then we tried to cicle it again and you could only hear a beeeeeep...then it happened.

Of a sudden from where the motor was located, quite a bit of smoke came out of the retract!!!!!!!

My mate grabbed quickly a screw and I tried to picture it as fast as I could but missed some of it....we took it out and had a look at it...well..

My hands smell now burned and the retract smells badly burned up...we tried to test it again but nothing...no beeps, no sweeps and no cricks, just plain dead!

Now..E-Flite is so proud of their over current protection system on their retracts??? It ain't true!
We tried this on the other working retract and it would not STOP, it would just wanna try to retract completely without to stop once something is in it's way and give a short beeep from it.

So I have a 4500 Dollar Jet...and 495 dollar expensive retract set and a E-Flite 25-46 Electric Retract Tricycle set that is usually worth 165$, but for me worth ain't a s.

I am so angry that it has no over current protection and the motor just burned up and smoke came out.
IMAGINE this HAPPENING, during Flight!!!!!

Here a few picks that I did try to get.

I need a replacement now...How cool is that? Maybe I need to replace the whole electric retract set from E-Flite!

NS.

have a look a the other sizes. Only the littlest seems okay in the reviews.
You could add your experiences over there as well.

Btw, From memory, Tam has stronger trunions in stock for your version.

good luck,
Erik

Ok Guys..

It seems that thing that is moving forČbackward kinda got stuck in the position...reason?

The left gear is the working one..you can see a bit of space it left, but on the burned one..it is nice on the edge...

You have to view the pictures up very closely..

Last time I go with this E-Flite crap on such an expensive Jet.

You guys check picture 1674 and 1676 closely...around the strut you can see something like fog, something dense and white..that is the smoke that came out of the retract...on picture 1676, look just where the strut starts, you can clearly see a smoke like leaving towards the end of the wing, from the picture to the right.

Crap retracts!

The 25-46 e-flites that I've seen have worked flawlessly. Maybe you just got a defective set? I am going to use them on my Jet-Teng ViperJet. Sorry you are having issues though. That seriously sucks

╠seem to remember reading somepllace the electric retracts are not intended for constant use. Cycling repeatedly will over heat them. Not sure if this was eflite or rclander or maybe the hk clones.

E-flite stuff is most certainly not crap.
And Tam definitely does some top-notch work.

Sorry to hear about it, but remember that NO one Manufacturer is perfect. I'm sure Tam will take care of you, and I know for a fact that Horizon will make good on replacing that bum unit.

Ok guys

I just talked for my first time with Tam directly and he will take care of me.

I will send him my complete set of retract and he will exchange them and send the broken one to horizon directly, so I have less hassle and saving some time on the longest spark build a man has ever seen.

Tam also found it funny just like me that it has no anti current protection or jamming protection at all.

I am going to get now my 2nd Beer.

Tam it was an honor to talk to you

Thanks for your help on this matter, way to go!

I don't doubt Tams work for 1 moment..it was not his issue or his mistake but rather the one from Horizon Hobby.

Guys, this crap happen to anyone and I do understand it can be frustrated.
Good it happen on the ground and not in the air.
One bad parts can cost the plane on fire is not good.
I'm sure Horzion peoples put more pressure to the factory to had this QC issue on top their lists.
