Mine is close to maidening.... I just need to get some new wing servo covers (flat will work), and finalize the fuse install.

I was happy when the plane weighed @ 70oz before checking the CG; But much to my chagrin it looks like it will need about 8oz in the nose to balance it. That is with the lighter LiFe batery though. I still wish the tails were lighter. 30g from the tails together would mean about 70g from the nose for a savings of 100g total. Total would then be @ 76oz, that would be nice.

Mines probably quite a bit heavier than that!! Thermals well in quite light air..
You are going to ballast it anyway
Clear plastic off some packaging will work for servo covers..

Gonna use some of my buddy Merrill's clear covers, eventually to be painted red inside.
They make installation very easy, and have a proper sized bump for the servo arm.

how would you rate the light air performance in comparison to top-of-the-line planes like Freestylers or Ceres? The Toba looks very good in the video but it's not like being there in person

it's hard to say for the moment: I was flying my Martinet at the same time: empty, it was more or less the same, but then I put 600g inside, it was much faster. We'll see how the Toba handles ballast when the ballast system is ready.

what is sure, is that it handles turns greatly in light condition, and that's the most important point in F3F as that's when you gain speed.

what ever happens, JB will use his Toba in competition from end of march on, we'll know at this moment how it compares to everything else

it is not made yet. JB will put 660g of brass ballast in the wing, and 800g in the fuse with a rectangular ballast tube: he will show you if he comes around this forum.

The next flight with different settings are really promising. Curves are similar to a ping pong ball.
This is a really easy glider in flight.
As said cedric, I will make a rectangular compartment ballast for reasons of space and to use the ballast of my Miraj 30.80.

Did you use the servo tray that came with the Toba?
Also, what is the unballasted ready to fly weight of your Toba?

JB will precise but I remenber it comes out at 2.350Kg with 250g of lead for balancing at manual's CG.

Exactly Cedric, good memory, between 2.350 and 2.400 kg. I used the servo tray comes with the TOBA and a 1500mAh NiMH battery.
I think I would do my commands later as explained above to gain a little weight. 98mm is safe for the first flight but I think we can move the CG back
I will post pictures when I have 5 minutes ...

Target, headed out to set his CG at @ 102 with permanent lead. I'll add some trim lead to get it to 98mm to start.
