Here's a couple shots of me and my Red Merle ALES eSupra.

Also attached are the results of my first contest with her. I'd only flown her twice prior. To say the least I'm impressed!

The last flight task of the day was 12 minutes. There were five of us in this flight group. We all launched into some light lift which quickly went away. I went searching and wasn't finding anything. Three folks landed and that left me up with one other guy. I was pretty low and was on a short base leg and about to turn final and knew I was not going to be the last person up to get that 1,000 points when I hit a bump, I made a turn and it was so-so but decided I could still make one more turn and see what was there and if nothing I could still make a landing. While I made this turn the other pilot was on final to land (5:30 seconds). I made another turn and that was much better! Next thing I know I flew 11:57 and a 30 point landing. It's like flying hand launch.

To say I like this eSupra not only from a flying stand point as well as the build is an understatement. It's an easy build as the spar system and joiners which take the most work are very simple to do. The pod and boom are even simpler.

Time to fly some more!

I agree man - that is a dream ship - and all scratched. Great job Curtis.

I think they should make you fly a Radian in those comps - it's just not fair

You are welcome Curtis,

Robbie took that picture.

See post #104
I used 1 wrap of 1.0” diameter 8.3oz carbon fiber sleeve to make a 38” long. Mandrel is 1.2” by .5”

This is where I got the carbon sleeving:

Hey Curtis

thanks a lot, I will post some pics of our end result It will take some time thought, we are moving to a new flat next month so Until then I will be making fuse and booms.

One extra question about the boom, do you apply something to your mandrel?? I saw other guys warping VCR tape before the layout.

and with one wrap, you mean only one layer of the sleeve?? nothing else?? and finally on which side you lay the VCR tape the bright one or opaque one??

sorry for the ton of questions

Regards

EZ,
No worries, glad to help.

I prep the mandrel with a nice coat of vaseline. Then I wrap one layer of VCR tape on the mandrel. Then i apply a little more vaseline or just PVA to the tape, i have done boyh with success. I then wet out the sleeve on butchers paper on my work bench and flip it over and wet it out some more. I am quite liberal with the epoxy. Then I scrape with a squeegee some of the epoxy out. I don't go crazy trying to get the epoxy out. Then I carefully open up the sleeve and pull it over the mandrel and stretch it tight. Then I apply one layer of VCR tape to hold it tightly together.

The release side of the VCR tape is the inside of the tape. So the first wrap on the mandrel you want the inside of the tape out and the second wrap the inside of the tape goes in against the layup.

I saw some similar products on the catalog of a local dealer, I will give it a try this techniques seems to be perfect for my purpose

I will try to make my first pod (I might end up making several for friends) this weekend, I will post some pics here if the experiments works out

I still need to find a suitable mandrel :P I let the ski season pass maybe I will get some discount poles now

You may be able to find a billiards cue that is just about right for your project.

Hey Curtis

the project is getting started. I am planing on building two fuses one electric, one for slope soaring. I will be buying the wood for the fuse mold today, I hope I can make some progress if my "cold" allows me :P

I was wondering what motor + esc combo are you using there??

regards
