HiTec X4-AC charger

I'm considering the purchase of a HiTec X4-AC charger. I'm drawn to this unit because of the AC/DC power and having 4 ports to use.

http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/new...4-ac-plus.html

I will only be charging LiPo batteries, specifically my inventory of two 2S-4000mAh, four 2S-5000mAh and two 2S-8000mAh.

Anyone have any experience with this unit (or the DC-only cousin)? Thank you in advance.

Search in the batteries and charger forum - there's experience in there with that charger. It is limited to 50watt per port and the charge rate is also limited by the wattage. You won't be able to charge you 8000mah 2S at 1C using that charger.

That charger will charge an 8000mah 2S, it will just take longer. Their dual charger, Hitec X2, may be a better choice with its 200watts and 10amps max charge rate per port. Whichever you go with, make sure you get a PS with enough power to run all ports at rated power if your plan is to use it that way.

I appreciate the feedback and definitely will look there.

If you don't mind the dumb questions:

1. How do you figure Watts/mAh/Amps, etc to determine if a charger will keep up? I understand that my 5000mAh battery will need 5A to charge at 1c, while my 8000mAh battery will need 8A to charge at 1c, but how do I relate those numbers to the charger I'm looking at?

2. If I am charging a battery (any battery) at 1c, does that equate to the charging process taking 1 hour (well, more or less, taking into account the way the final part of the charge process takes a little more time)?

Please take it easy on me. Electrical theory goes over my head in a hurry. Thanks again.

OK, I think I found the answer to my questions (post #47 about the HiTec).

# cells (S) x volts per cell (4.2) x Amps (mAh/1000) = Watts.

So, assuming 50W per port

2s 5000:
2x4.2x5 = 42W (51 minute charge)

2s 4000:
2x4.2x4 = 33.6W (41 minute charge)

2s 8000:
2x4.2x8 = 67.2W (80 minute charge)

Am I correct? If so, I find this completely acceptable. I'm currently using a PolyCharge4 that only charges at a max of 3A and takes 4+ hours to charge the 2s-8000mAh batteries!

That's close, you also have to account for the efficiency of the charger, so you'll probably see a bit under 50w of actual output.
