Again--I haven't finished building mine to the point of flying it and telling you if my power system is an overkill... If the rule-of-thumb is that you need at least 200W/lb for an EDF jet, and you can get the plane to 6lb, you might be able to get away with 1200W setup, which you could run off a 4S battery (82A total, 42A per side). On 5300mAh battery, a 25C battery would be enough (although I would probably go with 30C or higher).

Take my advice/calculation above with a grain of salt, as I haven't finished/flown mine yet.
That's about what I thought. I was going to set it up to be light anyways using the fixed gear, and lightweight but good quality esc's as well as light batteries. I should have a pretty good flight time considdering 5300mah. That was my goal. Lightweight and moderately cheap with a good amount of flight time.

You probably want to consider motors with 3000-3300kv, then.

Remember, cheap was a factor.

Just kidding. Who knows, maybe she'll fly on a 4s.

This plane looks like an absolute steal of a deal! AM I reading this right? A 1500mm balsa plane for $119.50!? That I can put 2 Change Sun 70mm fans in? Sounds too good to be true, but as soon as I get my next check I will have one of these on the way. I am looking forward to seeing you guys flight videos.

Hey, you can drive 4 hours north and see it in person... Three of us here in Plano are building the same plane, so we might have a triple maiden. Probably around March. This plane is really of high quality. For just over $100, I didn't expect it...

Is the covering of the plane able to be repainted? I am going to build this, but want to copy a local A-10 grayscale scheme.

Thanks Chris

It looks like it. It really helps that it is painted in matte, so any new coat of paint will catch on easily. I painted over some of my CMP P-40 covering which appears to be made of the same material, and had no problem.

Interesting how the batteries performed. My batteries seem to underperform when the temperature is under 50F...
