Well those geared motors are O K. 3 cells allows only about 20% of throttle movement for plenty of thrust. Even 2 Black & Decker A123 1100 mahr cells are fine.
So I order 2 ...1000 mah 2 cell packs.
I can finally convert the rest of the GWS planes to LIPO now.

took my overweight Spitfire out for another go this afternoon, have now got the elevator sorted but the ailerons are still causing problems; I'm using an old 35mhz transmitter for the Spit at the moment as I don't have a spare RX for my 2.4ghz one, so I can't make any adustments there. It actually flew very well, but the throws on the ailerons are still (despite some tweaking) giving the plane a frankly insane roll rate. Nailed a perfect landing though, so it can't have been too bad

I just built a gws cub with floats, and quite by accident I found a easy way to mount the floats...I've read a lot of threads looking for something like this and and maybe I just missed it ,but gws parts tree "C" has the mounts for the floats..They are in many gws kits ,but no mention is made of it that I've found...You can also get the parts tree from BP Hobbies ,Part no. PMSPC 1008 or just look at parts for the corsair or A-10,and you'll find it...mounting is simple just cut a slot and a bead of gorilla glue around the opening and your set....

Thanks, Planesilver. I did not know that.

Been windy here a lot lately, but have managed to get in a few more Formosa 1 flights. She seems to fly well with either a 1300 or 1800 3s. One of my favorite airplanes.

I got my Slow Stick dialed in this evening.

It has ailerons and clipped wings with some differential set at the servos. This wing has more dihedral than my older wing and turned a bit lazy compared to the flatter wing.

I dialed in some aileron/rudder mix tonight and it now carves turns like a figure skater... Awesome little plane

Finally

Did first high speed taxi tests.

I think it would fly on 1 cell in a school gym. That would be @ 18 oz. RTF.

I still have 2 over powered & overweight P-51s. With a different gearbox ratio ?? I might be able to do a super lightweight Mustang.

Obviously I am a builder & not a pilot.

I just remembered ! I do not have a Piper Cub. Yet. Love the web & C C buying. What sized prop looks scale sized ?

Thanks
Rich

Thanks! Here are the High Res pictures from my buddy's Pentax DSLR camera!

Gerry (simano) certainly livens up with his photography skills!

Of course we has two GWS Slow Sticks that day and mine is the one with the German Cross Decals!

Hi Rich,

I'd suggest using 7.4V lipo and throttle it back. This way you could have longer flight time, and it's also good for lipo's life span as well.

It's about 8" prop if you meant GWS Pico Cub.

I have gone with a smaller motor on my pico cub, after the wings had a disturbing flutter over certain speeds....I opted for a (still rather large) slo-fly 400 from headsuprc. When it is coupled with a 3s 450 mah pack, it is indeed an interesting machine. Only slightly heavier than stock, it has unlimited vertical (if one so chooses) yet can be throttled back for super-slow flight. Last time out, I helped a lady exercise her 6 year old golden retriever, as the dog thought the 'cub was a bird of some kind. She said her dog hadn't had that much exercise in quite some time. The dog couldn't keep up with the C-47. I love, love, love, my pico cub. It has been with me since....2000? Wow, didn't know that! I am going to give the old cub a makeover, it really deserves one. I even bought a new cowl for it! ------Metalguy

The Tinman has a heart.

Does any body know where a fuselage bodied Cub is for sale ? Slim pickings right now.

Is GWS still shipping to the USA ?
