Got in a half dozen more flights on the Mosa 1 this afternoon, A bit of wind - around 10 mph. My goal was to fly eye level inverted figure eights today, but she was bouncing enough in the tree/wind turbulence that I was afraid to bring her down that low for very long, so I spent most of my time around 20 ft.

Still, made some progress, I think, learning more about feathering the elevator with a very light touch to try to maintain a constant altitude. I tend to climb during the turns when I am inverted - unconscious fear of the ground, I think LOL

sweet... I like to balance mine so that almost no elevator is required when inverted. I find that it helps the turns as well. I like psychologically to know that it can go inverted without having to do any anything extra for the inputs. But.... it is a personal choice... many do like to have to apply some down elevator.

I maidened the 3dhs SV today. Only got two flights on it, but it did remind me a lot of the way the Mosa II flies (nice straight lines). I know you can't compare between the two, but I will still fly them back to back next week to compare the feel of both...

Well I got greedy and took off in a break in the weather- we have been experiencing bad snow fog in the morning- and lost sight of the Mosa in an instant. I was flying by sound for a while and loaded too many G's on the already battered and abused fuselage. I was so apprehensive of putting the Mosa into a residence that I was yanking back on the stick constantly and must have folded the fuselage in the wing saddle section because the moment it emerged out of the fog bank the fuselage was darting back to earth with the wing, unattached, fluttering down after it.

I salvaged, remarkably, all electronics including the motor, the wing and horizontal stab. The cowl was literally obliterated as was the spinner- all that was left were shards no bigger than confetti. The aluminum motor mount was also bent but not cracked thankfully.

I swung by my LHS and picked up a new Mosa for under $33 and started throwing together a new fuse . I put HeadsUpRC's new EMP 3536-1100 on the aluminum mount after I bent it back into shape. This motor performs comparably to the PowerUp 480 Plus, however, I do not care for the fragile insulators on leads of the EMP.

All to do is wait for a nice SUNNY day.

Wow str8, tough break but nice save on the parts! Is this the Formosa that is 4S-powered?

And what part of the world are you in to where you can walk right into an LHS and pick up a 'mosa?! I've yet to see anymore than Slow Sticks in CA shops, and sometimes even they're not often stocked.

My BN2 arrived all intact over the weekend from Caliber Hobby. If anybody is looking for one of these, Caliber still has the EDP-100C, EDP-300 and the BN2J-EDFs in stock and at 25% off - discount is reflected in the shopping cart. In fact, all of their EPS kits are currently 25% off.

Yeah, got lucky. Got a small shop here in Salt Lake, MRS Hobby, that carries a pretty big selection of GWS kits and parts. Doug, the owner, also keeps an eye on his online competition so the prices cannot be beat. He runs a site called Hobby-On.

It was freaky how fast the fog moved in. I could clearly see houses above me on the hill about 500m away and the sun was shining through....then rotation, a couple circuits around the parking lot then my plane was GONE!

Follow Up: I also lost a Zippy Compact 4S 1500 (won't cry @under $12per). I could peel back the shrink wrap and eek! silver cell insulation wrapped around each cell. Caught a whiff of the chemicals therein....probably going to develop a tumor now!

Sorry to hear about the fog mishaps. Some can have happy endings. Here's when I fly in fog with the GWS Cub.

RC Plane flying in extreme fog - one crash landing GWS J3 Cub (2 min 25 sec)

Are you saying the only damage is that the shrink wrap was removed? If so, I don't see a reason why not to use it. I have wrapped batts like that before with eletrical tape without any issues....

Nice video, Leabres. Man it has been a long time since I flew a JC Cub - probably at least 10 years.

Have some nostalgic joy and take your J3Cub for a flight (if you still have it). It was my first ARF, built it stock. As a newbie back then, didn't know there were options. I still remember the bewilderment of "It flies! It flies!" and so ridiculously slow too!

My J3 Cub is over 2 years old and comes out to fly at least twice a month on very calm evenings. The warm twilight on the faded yellow is soothing like you don't have a care in the world, but just until the lipo starts to get weak.

Soooooo - Really - I am just a lunatic.

I just ordered 2 more 3D planes from Tech one - the Katana and the smaller Yak. So now I have a dozen or so planes NIB including a Moth 400, Pico Moth, Mosa 1 & 2.

It always seems to make prefect sense at the time I order something new. Then I look around the hangar and say, "Why the Heck did I just do that LOL.

Am I the only one who is this dysfunctional, or do I have good company among my GWS brothers?

Enable me! Enable me! LOL

Wolfe

Crossed over 70 flights on my Mosa 1 this past week - she is my "most flown" airplane and still going strong. I alway figure if I get 50 flights out of an airplane I probably got my moneys worth. I rarely get to 100 flights, since i seem to have a knack for breaking things LOL

Nope! The silver wrapping which covers each cell was ripped exposing the green, stinky insides. Another battery for the salt water-garbage

Yay!!!! The GWS 35mm mounts are here!!!!

Lighter and way cheaper than the metal alternatives. Another fantastic addition to the GWS hardware line. In additon, I particularly like these as stand alone retainers

Hey Mr Chen! Do you know if / when the P-38 will coming out in EPO?

I beat you to it here....

I re-maiden'd the Mosa 2 today. I gave her a new quick paint scheme from this, to the below. Not as fancy as my first Mosa 2 and still pretty busted.

So, keep in mind this is not my prized frame, so i don't exactly give her the white glove treatment. I figured lets see if I can fix it with minimal effort. I put it on the CG machine and it was way way way tail heavy. I didn't feel like changing the components inside, so I figured what the heck, lets pile on the weight until the CG machine is happy. It took a lot of dead weight (pic #3). However, I figured with 550W who cares lets see what happens. Took her to the air today, and man, she was extremely nose heavy. I mean VERY nose heavy. Pure luck I didn't crash. I took off and landed 3 times, taking the dead weight off one at a time. Finally with all the dead weight off, I could finally trim it out. Still nose heavy though with about 20 clicks of up trim...

Since she is all banged up and not straight, I suspect something else have changed its flight characteristics (ailerons deflection up, horizontal stab angle, etc').

I will tune it further next week. She still managed to slice through 15mph winds without a problem and was still fun to fly after the CG drama.
