HK KK V2 Quad board (and other recent KK boards)

I recently bought a new Hobbyking Quad Board, the V2. Apparently this is built under license with KK. For 29 dolllars shipped, I'm amazed at the ease in which this board flies
I'm using some 1000kv blue motors I got on clearance from HK along with Rc Timer 30amp esc's and my DX7 with HK orange rx. The quad weighs in at 42 oz auw with 2200 ma 3s.
In my opinion this board flies equally as well as the GU344 and I actually prefer it over the FY90Q, both of which I have flown. I sent my old FY90Q over to a friend to see how well he got along with it.
I'm using a very simple wood frame, with landing gear from what is left of the destroyed Lotus T580 that I was sent for testing. It started flipping from at least 100 feet onto pavement and the landing gear were about all that was left worth salvaging. They work very well on this quad.
Here is a flight video I did of my HK "KK" quad today. The more I fly this quad the better I like it.
Now to work on a camera mount

Really? The Chinese entering into a licensing agreement with anyone is hard to believe.

Isn't Hobbyking actually owned by an Ozzie? That's what I was under the impression of. The chinese supply the gear but I was thinking the company itself is not chinese.

I've found that you can have the most expensive board out there TZ and if your motors and esc's aren't well suited to quads, you're going to be very frustrated.
For me, the rc timer 30 amp programmable esc's work very well. Also make sure you get their programming card. The purists will tell you that you don't really need one and I suppose you don't but it's so much easier to program them with a card.
Also, make sure you get descent motors. Turnigy 1000kv motors will work very well. Mine are clearance from HK but the Turnigy 1000kv motors work equally as well.
Otherwise, just make sure your frame is VERY square, your motors are all plumb and you'll be fine. If you have even one motor a little twisted, you will never get it trimmed.
And balance, balance, balance your props.
As anyone that's been on this part of rcg will tell you, I've had my share of bad setups and then some. But once I understood that it's a very complex mix of the right parts, everything will fall into place. Then it gets almost easy.

Here is an onboard video I did today. Now before anyone says anything, I KNOW it's horrible due to vibration. I did this in haste just to see how well it handled the weight of the camera. Right now I'm in the process of balancing my props. They are WAY off...........

Hobby King KK Quad Onboard Video Flight (4 min 11 sec)

I still have some work to do with the camera mount and the gyro settings but here is at least a viewable video. It was moderately windy when this was done. Still, it flies pretty good for having less than 150 dollars in all the electronics, including the FC. Alltogether maybe 175 dollars counting the frame.
You can get the esc's on rc timer right now for 10 apiece. The motors were 15 apiece, the FC was 28 and the rx was 15.
40+60+28+15=143 dollars total for the working parts

I've flown a Gaui 330XS, a home made quad with the GU344, a home made quad with FY90Q and a Lotus T580. Although the Lotus "did" fly well, it didn't live long due to an inherant "flipping" issue. But this is by far the easiest, most fun "throw around" quad I've had yet.
Here is a list of the "guts".
The flight control. 28 dollars shipped.

The motors. I don't have these exact ones but these are basically the same and probably better.

The esc's

And a programming card for the esc's

Also, I'm using 10X4.7 EPP props and a HK Orange rx.
Alltogether less than 150 dollars in parts not counting the frame.

I second that opinion Very little setup involved. You can change the programming but I'm a klutz when it comes to that so I just left it alone and fly it in + mode.
The instructions say to start with 50% on aileron and elevator but I soon put mine out to 125% on everything with 50% expo on everything but rudder. I left rudder with no expo.

I highly recommend v4.7 firmware though. made it so much better flying. and I use + mode but use delta wing mix to get X. I use 50% epa on ail/ev, but no expo. 125 on rudder. depends on size of the quad though.

I just got mine from HK so I'm not sure about which firmware it has. It flies well enough that I think I'll just leave it alone.
