frog - I see you've trimmed off the wing-tip "tanks".
Both mine have snapped off and been re-glued, but I'm thinking about doing like you. No difference in flight I assume?

After 20+ flights and landings my stock prop finally broke (bent 90degrees about 1/3 way from the tip actually) when she skidded around on a landing, backwards into a rock.
Great, get to try out the APC 5.5x5.5 pusher!

Flight went well, then on the 1st landing (not even a harsh one) one of the blades breaks off. Brittle little suckers!

Tip tanks

Both tanks wing tip were reglued several times, so this is following earlier advise from this forum, I forget who but they recon speed improved and no ill effects stability. Still repairing and hot roding, will post results of flights when its finished.
My dissovleable stitches came out today, 5 weeks after op on shoulder, I'll be out in the feild flying this week.

What will be the best motor in 3S?
I have already a 2826 2200kv, the speed is good but I need more

Went out for a couple of flights yesterday. on the second flight I put my nanotech 1300 4s in . Coming past in a high speed run , a trail of smoke was leaving the tail . Another motor burnt up. Although ,the smoke did look good.

cid156, I run a turnigy 2836 3200kv on my ultra funjet on 3s with a 4.7x4.7 prop. It draws 55-58 amps and 550watts, it is rated to 5s in a edf 70mm. Surprised me in speed for 3s. Also ran a himax b2825 3600kv might be 10kph faster same prop. I ran this 2815 2000kv in a trainer an kept folding wings at high speed, should be great on 4s.

Has anybody carried out any airframe mods to increase speed?

I was thinking along the lines of thining the wings, reducing the span, reducing fin area, improving surface finish, 'extreme' streamlining? I know tip tanks were an obvious improvement...but what else could be done?

Although you may probably end up with something that looks more like a sidewinder missile than an aircraft, I just wonder how fast one of these could be made to go. Right now, with aircraft out there pushing 1.5KW, there is probably little more that can be done in terms of power?

Ready for action again, 4s1800ma65c nano fits easy and still air flow to motor is good. About time I found a home for this himax motor, first time on 4s, 5x5apc. Up it goes, either flys or not, my guess is heaps faster then stock.

Harly - after removing the the foam cap on top of the motor (took some careful working with an exacto and longer razor blade) it took more careful cutting and prying to get the stock motor& motor mount out. Even then the lower foam piece rear of the the mount tore away from the rest of the fuse (the mount channel is deep and there isn't much foam underneath it).

After swapping the 2826 motor I used hot glue to fix the mount back into the foam, reattached the lower foam "shroud" and put a few strips of CF on the belly to strengthen the structure, and glued the top cap back on. So mine is a pretty permanent installation - don't want to think of having to take the motor out again... luckily she barely gets warm after 5 minutes flying with a 1.3A 3S Nano-tech 45-90C. I don't push my luck with a 4S after the one time....

Maybe you can undo the motor bolts with the mount still sitting in the lower "frame", with a long phillips screwdriver? Anyone?
Would save some hacking/repairing to leave the mount in place.

Got my Radjet in the air last night after converting to a Turnigy 2836-2350kv motor. On 3s 2200 35c and an APC 6x5.5 it was doppler'd around 90mph flat and level. I only have a 35amp Castle ESC in there right now, so I cant run 4s (watt meter was showing about 380watts@36amps), but I was very happy with the performance on 3s.

Motor came down fairly warm, but within reasonable limits. Flew around for about 5 minutes doing 6-8 second WoT bursts and the batts had 3.8v per cell when I came down. Very pleased with the setup.

I was able to install my 2836 without removing the motor mount. I used a very skinny phillips head screwdriver out of a eyeglass repair kit. Bottom screws were a little tricky, but nothing major.
