Speaking of the USS George Washington, I'm betting it'll just be a matter of time before David or somebody comes up with an aftermarket conversion kit to make the Skipjack into a GW class SSBN.

Skipjack to Washington conversion........

Missile Section = about 21.67" long by 5.50" diameter hull tube.
Missile Section decking.
New rudders, dive planes and sail planes.
New sail and some new masts.
New deck detail.

New overall length would be about 63.58".
-----------------------------------------
I believe all these things have been made before. 1/72 scale.
Maybe there are molds and jigs out there just waiting to be revived.

I wonder how much the conversion kit will be? I know that the WTC for this boat ain't cheap. Over $500.00. I'll have to think on that one.

The upper hull half needs to have the tail cone cut off aboiut 3.5" - 4'" forward of the prop. This short stubby piece will be glued to the lower hull half. The upper and lower rudders are attached to a common yoke. On my 1:72 scale SKIPJACK, the upper tail cone is about 4" long.

Boy I'm stupid because I already knew that. If you didn't you couldn't tighten the rudder or dive plane yokes.

Thought everyone might like to know.
-----------------
1/72 Skipjack model ordered Friday, Sept 21 at 2:30pm

USP delivered today, Tuesday, Sept 25 at 2:30pm.

I have another project I'm working on. I may not get to this build for a while.

I will take photos of the boxes it came in...3 total...and photo the packaging and parts.

When I upload this info, I will post a link to it.

If you have questions about the kit, I have one in hand.
I might be able to help.
=======================
Matt ThorDesigns.... you asked.
Hull thickness average....... .093" to .097"
Sail thickness average....... .065" to .070"

Now I have to go back to work for a couple more hours. I'll stop by later this evening.

I got mine. Here is my contribution to help out. I have seen the first test shot, and it was a nice boat.
