I know. It's really an awesome combo. The stock v2 with your batts isn't up to that performance for sure!

So, I was looking at replacing the motor and it isn't as straight forward as with the Sbach. I've got to get the cockpit off. I've got to cut tape on my new Beast! Darn...

No, I found the stock control horn settings were very responsive. So I never tried it.

I dont get it, if the new motor is HIGHER KV then shouldnt the 5043 spin faster on the new motor than the old motor?

Ok, I did some watt meter testing when I got home on this new motor:

-- With a GWS 5030, I pulled 2.9 Amps and 22 watts on a Hyperion 180 at 8.3v.
-- With a GWS 5043, I pulled 3.9 Amps and 29 watts on a Hyperion 180 at 8.3v.

So I think it's a personal preference on prop use, as they're both under the max of the ESC. Also, keep in mind the increase amp draw from the servos running more.

It was funny to hear the servos counteract the prop blast during the testing!

To a point. But if the steeper prop needs more torque than the motor can deliver it slows the rpm's down. Does a higher kv motor have the same torque as a lower kv motor?

Yes. Very stable. Landings are a piece of cake. It almost lands itself. It makes it feel bigger... more on rails. It's a very different feeling than a typical UM. It feels more like my Slick 51. Not as good, but more like. Hard to tell how it will do in the wind because there was absolutely NO wind. Perfect day for flying.

I only had 2 charged batteries with me and no charger so I didn't have enough flight time to start playing with more advanced things. I was getting used to it. It was very strange in turns before I figured out you have to use rudder.

Cool. That's a substantial increase in power. 35%! I'll just put a 5043 on it and try it that way first.

Great info! Do you have a tach? Would be interesting to see some static RPM numbers along with the power & current data.

Thanks for the flight-report! When I first saw the AUW of the 3D, I was a bit concerned about the vertical performance. That's why I asked Kevin's guys if it pulls vertically out of a hover with authority, like the V1 does. I posted the question twice, but never did see a reply.

Another option for more grunt might be to use the 3000Kv motor & 5.25x3.5 prop from the Gee Bee.

If the RPMS are close between these 2 props then we are in business. As stated before on the sbach the prop change was minimal : ((( I did NOT want to be modding this plane so soon.....
