FAI F5B planes climb at around 10,000 fpm. F5F planes and 7-cell F5B planes still make about 8000 fpm. That is assuming you could run the motor -- or see the plane -- for a minute...

I suspect your all up weight might be a bit more than 55-65oz

(I've estimated a few things, probably on the low side)

Empty weight airframe 760g (as per fvk website)
Servos 130g
Hacker B50s with GB ~230g
Jeti 70amp Controller 41g
UBEC ~25g
12 Cell HRSC pack 750g
Receiver 25g
Misc Cables pushrods 30g
Prop & Spinner ~30g

Total 2021g/ ~72oz

However with the amount of wing this thing has got, I don't think it will be a bother.

Dieter,

What motor/esc would you recommend to get 7 cells to climb at 8000fpm. If I could get that, I WOULD go with 7 cells. I don't need to climb at 10000 fpm. I was shooting for 5-6000 with my s11...

Those packs look good! I Don't think I could build three in a night. A friend of mine has a Mini-G on order, so I'll get to see one soon I hope.

My Solo's climb rate is about ~3000fpm which right now is plenty for me. I need to get more flights on it to try and get over my nerves...... I'm a bit paranoid about tip stalling it. Also with our main field still out of action, every alternative site seems very small... so in between this and bad weather not much flying has been done.

All you MG owners--- did you add a extra layer of glass in the servo bays? The instructions I received say that an extra layer of galss must be installed in the servo bays!

Soho --please keeps this pics coming ! If I get the motor today I will begin installation to have my MG ready for the weekend!!

reinforcement for servos

I do not know if the instructions are for the current or older "revision" of the MG. Anyway I did not add any reinforcement for servos. I know that the instructions ask for that, but I figured out that the factory made carbon fiber reinforcements for servos are enough.

I epoxied Volz servo frames directly on the carbon fiber reinforcements.

So far no problems.

looks like it's going to be 16cells...

Today I received a shipment of 48 zapped faup cells... I am toying with them now. to see how they will fit, but I think they are going to make it... I can do 4 12 cell packs, 6 8 cell packs, or 3 16 cell packs... guess which one I am going to choose...

At any rate, anyone have any tips on how to remove the cardboard from these cells?
