24th Annual Southwest Classic

24th Annual Southwest Classic 2012

Central Arizona Soaring League (CASL) is proud to announce the 2012 Southwest Classic, on February 15 – 19, at Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek, Arizona. We are excited to introduce a new format for 2012, with five full days of soaring. These events will include F3J, F3K, LMR and Thermal Duration. Please save the date as you don’t want to miss this event!

We will only allow one person per channel on 72mhz. There will not be an impound for radios.

• February 15th and 16th F3J in the Desert (two day contest) Registration: f3xevents.com

• February 17th F3K (one day contest and lunch will be provided)

• February 17th LMR (starts at 2:00 pm after F3K)

• February 18th and 19th Thermal Duration (pilots meeting 8:30 am, first flight 9:00am)

AMA rule 5.2.a & 5.2.b in effect: Each contestant shall be limited to two models per class. Either model may be flown at anytime throughout the contest at the discretion of the competitor.

Saturday tasks: 6min, 10min, 10min, 10min, fifth round to be decided by C.D.
Sunday tasks: 6min, 10min, 10min
Should be finished by 12:30 pm on Sunday

Awards and raffle after contest is complete.

Price for Thermal Duration:
$50.00 First class (includes temporary membership)
$30.00 each additional class
$25.00 for youth and $15.00 for each additional class

F3K will be $20.00, which includes lunch (Subway)

LMR rules: We will have no limits or restrictions, height limiters will be provided. We will also have a seperate class for Radians.

Camping is allowed on-site for an extra fee on $25.00 for dry and $35.00 for wet per night starting on Tuesday, first come first serve. Camping fee paid directly to CASL during Registration for SWC.

Saturday evening Banquet dinner!
Hosted by Joe Wydronek. On the menu will be a Steak dinner with a baked potato and one additional side item. Price will be $18 per person.

It will have it's own site to sign up on which I believe Jim Monaco will be handling. As we get closer to the event I will be able to provide more info.

The field should be open for flying in the late afternoon. Could be earlier depending on how many pilots we have in LMR, but I don't see it being a problem.

Cool. I cannot afford all the time off required to do a full week in AZ so it will just be the SWC itself for me. No need to get there too early on Friday now either based on this info.

I can do the time away from work, however, it has been made known by the female species (a.k.a. Evereadii spendibus) that another holiday weekend away could be detrimental overall. Thus, I'm looking at the J thing only...

Yikes! Good point. Just looked at the calendar. 2/16 is the Spousal Unit's birthday. So I am absolutely dead meat for the F3J, even if the jerk I work for gave me the time off!!
