I have just noticed in that pic you can see where i modded mirage at rear to fit fan. I sliced the bottom of the rear duct to gain access.

Looks like it is possible to emulate your setup with the RCL 4S EDF that I have since it'll only have to carry 4S.

Check Dionysus' setup using a Turnigy L2855-2800kv motor....

If you want more speed and stay with 4S(Your battery will be able to handle the 90amps) then you need a motor of 3000-3300kv like the Cyclone Power 3300kv.

Altenatively, one of the new RC Lander 10blade fans will also do....

Could someone tell me how to get this plane to go faster. Running it on 40c 2200 4s. It just seems much slower than all the other cs 70mm planes i have seen. Id say it doesnt go faster than 60. Its comparable to the pusher version of that plane. I dont have the edges beveled, will that make a huge difference?
Edit. Whoops. It has the exceed 2700kv motor and my thrust tube is 61mm. I also tried the tube at 56mm and it was about the same

If your 2200 40C batteries are like my Zippies, then they could be part of the problem.

Can't see from the photos... Do you have a thrust tube installed?

Just edited my above post with more info. Also the fan is balanced. Auw is like 25oz. Granted i could just buy a foamy kit but i like scratch building. They are so much easier to repair. If u cant tell i already had to replace the whole front end of that plane

Well the fan sits in the middle. Both sides of it are open and free flowing out the back of the plane. The receiver is on one side and esc on the sidewall of the other side. The pic below is how i had it setup on the dynam fan. When i switched to the cs it wouldnt fly so i took out those diverters as well as the 2 pieces in the middle that join right in front of fan

Edit. Pic on the left is how i had it previously. The other 2 is how it is now

If you can get 60 out of that plane, you can't expect much more. Any faster and I doubt the plane would hold together. Number one, the flight control rods are too long to be unsupported. Enjoy what you have and think about a new airframe like the Phase 3 F-16 if you want fast 70mm performance. It is a very nice flier even with the stock fan. My 55mm stock setup (old style) would do 75mph on decent 3S batteries yet many upgrade to larger fans.
Cheers

I dont think because of long control rods the plane wouldnt hold together. Do you mean just cause the design style of the plane or what? In the scratchbuild edf forum there have been numerous people get scratch builds over 100mph.

How wide is the exit of your thrust tube?

Anything less that 60mm is too small.

I think you will be hard pressed to find flat board foam used at 100mph. The structure is too flimsy unless you plan to add a fair bit of reinforcing. The large square intakes, and exposed servos will not be pushed very fast without a lot of thrust.
It is kind of like trying to make snoopy's doghouse into a "jet".
No offence...

So would reducing the size of the intakes help ?
