How to bend a motor shaft.....

I had a 2550kv RC Lander alloy fan, which has a quite nice and hefty 2960 motor in it. No name on it, but looks just like a HET. Same cooling cutouts etc.
But it has a 3.17mm shaft....
A bit of a nuisance on such a 'big' motor.

I fit the stock CS10 3.17mm adaptor, and it was a tight nice fit. I spun it up and it was 'very' true - no runout to be seen (run a steel ruler edge on it as it runs)... so to me it looked easily acceptable.
I used red loctite to lock the adaptor to the shaft, with blue loctite for the 4 grub screws.
Static balanced the CS10 rotor... fit that and low/mid RPM run it up to check vibration. It was good.

Test on 4S..... wind up to full RM and it does 600g thrust. LOL, weak thing it was....
Run it up on 5S (videoing all tests) and before I could even look at numbers, it went.... ummmm.... some strange noise anyway.... so I stopped it immediately.

Hmmm, the rotor is about 5deg, or so, off level..... something bent. Motor shaft most likely.... pull it apart.... yep.
What the.....????
With no test run up vibrations felt, it should have been balanced well enough for that to never happen! So I am not sure why it did.

It was easy enough to "straighten" the shaft by hand, on the adaptor..... so that is a very soft motor shaft!!
3.17mm...... soft shaft..... asking for trouble!!!

But it was a very nice LOOKING motor.....

The current Lander 10 blade 70mm uses a 3.17mm shaft too. And it is also a 2960, but 2190kv approx. So a good chance it is the same motor, just a different kv version.
I would be worried about that!!!
$72 balanced and ready to run. 1900w capable (yeah???)

The RC-Castle CyclonePower 10-blade is $84 but has a 4mm shaft 2960 2200kv.(1500w capable - a bit more realistic a number)
But not assembled.
It is a little bit lighter too (277g total instead of 313g).

Both seem to have 29mm+ motors and housing. Though they are not the same housing unit. Both have screw off lips.
The motors look quite similar, but not exactly the same.
Both probably perform very much the same I would expect.

I would pick the CyclonePower combo!! 4mm shaft. To be safer.....

I have the L2855 2100kv that im going to run on 6S, I have read some posts that it's failing after awhile. What timing are you guys running it on when it's failing? I'm thinking that low timing might help.

Hi Mark, Tams spinner is taller than yours. Your fits directly to the rotor hub. Tams has a large washer the same dia as the hub. His spinner rides on top of the washer, in a machined lip. Your spinner will work with Tams adapter, but not his washer. Your washer is required.

Has anyone tried the ARC motors on 6S? I'm looking at the 28-48-2. The 28-48-3 is only 1500 kv. Probably too low for 6S

Matters what you're looking for ...

I was thinking two 1800kv would be good for over 7lbs of thrust 6s

Sounds like 10 second burst on 6s is good for the 2100kvs....

The more I read the more I don't see the L2855 2100kv lasting any kind of time on 6S. Bench test today on 5S 2650mah 30C turnigy lipo gives me about 1:1 thrust in the Phase3 F-16. This will do for the maiden flight but I'm leaning towards the HET motors. most likely the 2W-30 and maybe the 3W-25. anybody want to trade for a BNIB 2W-20.
