have you throw that on a watt meter yet? would really be interested to see your numbers.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I upgraded it to 4S and whilst it was a fair bit faster, and acceptable then, it was still not 'fast'. The inlet ducting is too narrow.... restrictive. And that would surely bother a CS10, as well as the exhaust side restrictions too.
So it is a nice enough (bit budgetty) F-18, but needs a bit of work - especially for a CS10.
Ok, thanks for the infos
Do you think i can handlaunch and fly it without making modifications to the
inlet and exhaust duct ??

I only did a balance run with 3s ans 4s packs. Tam runs this set-up, only with His CF shroud, on 6s. IIRC it is 80A@1800W. I'm only interested in achieving 1000-1200W on 5s and smaller packs. It will go in another RBC Panther. A great flyer on 70mm vs 90mm. Weight goes from 6-6.5# to 4-4.25#.

Which motor?

The longer the motor the better in regards to longevity, on the other side don't waste weight and get a motor that can do 4000 watts and only put 1000 through it....jus my humble preference

Bentech, yes even at 3S 'pathetic power' the F-18 hand-launched fine.

tofast 4u - you didn't mention what motor.
KV just means the approx RPM it will do under NO load. Once used for any given load, it is like throwing some X amount heavy trailer onto your car..... and the motor then needs to be able to COPE with that task.
There are various possibilities that you might have done 'wrong'... but the first likely one is that is was too small a motor for the task.
At 2200kv it will draw a lot of current (or want to) and you need something more towards a CyclonePower ($45) or HET ($75) level of ability to do that adequately. eg Not some "$10 motor".
So the clue of "Lasted 20sec and burnt out" is a big clue that it was well under the ability truly required.

I used that motor with my F18 and 10 blade fan all the time. It works perfect- on 4S. It's a crap motor, but it works with 4S just fine. I was going to try it with 5S, but I guess not now... lol

Yeah. If you start with a marginal motor ; you can't increase the voltage and put it in a heavier loaded fan then expect it to last.

Maybe one or the other, but not both.

Cyclone Power CS480-3300-3.17 EDF Motor

I'm waiting on my 10 blade from HK..I have my new Cyclone Power 4S motor but I've never seen one that has a rubber ring to put around motor before...how do I use it? It seems to have two places that it could go on front of motor???

It's a real head scratcher...

Thanks,
Russ

That rubber ring is like a gasket used to give the motor more support in the tube. The two different slots are for different sized motor tubes, one will make the rubber ring sit lower in the slot for smaller motor tubes and the other will make it sit farther out for bigger tubes. You can try putting the ring around each setting and then sliding it into the tube on the shroud to see which is the tighter fit.
