I'm currently using HeliSimRC. With respect to ClearView, is it 'good enough' to transition to CP helis, or do I need something like Phoenix?

It's not bad on helis but of course real-life is always more difficult. I kinda suck as a heli pilot in real life, but on the sim it's kinda easy.

Thanks for that. On the ClearView website there is a demo download. It says, "Free trial time is provided", but does not say how much Free trial time is provided. Does anyone know?

Also for testing purposes, can the heli be controlled with a joystick (4-axis)?

1 - The free flight time is 15 minutes (time counts only in the air).
2. Yes, you can fly the model in the demo using joystick.

trust me Phoneix is no better than Clearview so save yourself the extra money and get Clearview
Clearview is always updating the program and adding new planes free.
so IMO CV is better than Phoneix or Real Flight in that respect.

I forgot to mention that heli sim Rc is a decent sim considering it is free however the CV sim is a bit more realistic and a bit harder to control the heli models which makes CV a lot closer to the physical model which also makes it easier to transition from sim to physical model.
start out with HSRC then transition to CV then from CV to physical model

I've been using HSRC (with a 4-axis joystick, until I can lay my hands on a controller). The CV is harder than this? Oh boy...

get A Dynam 6 channel Sim transmitter they are really good, Can be calibrated in windows and is very inexpensive.
Guaranteed learning how to fly a collective pitch heli will be one of the hardest R/C aircrafts you will ever learn how to fly.
IMO if you can successfully pilot a CV heli you can fly any thing.

That is the controller I had in mind. Some people say to use my Tx, but I'm concerned about wear-and-tear on it. They say they've never worn one out, but even a little slop in the pots can be very detrimental to heli flight.

Ya I have a couple of TX that I use for flying physical planes then I have the dynam USB box for the sim.
however I agree it is pretty hard to wear out a TX.

The Dynam isn't available locally, I'll have to have it shipped. I'll continue with my mSR and HeliSimRC. If and when I decide to progress further into the abyss of RC flying, I'll have the Dynam sent.
