Build Log
FROG Build-Off Widgeon X2+

Well here we go again The plans are ready and parts are being built.
I blew up the plan to 210% and that resulted in a 39.5" wing span and about 210 sq in. The fuse is 28" long. I have several brushless motors and batteries, something must work

I am on my way.......

Great stuff Scott, I've posted your build thread link to the Build Off thread. Watching with interest, that's four models underway with one actually flown (!) so I think we can count the FROG build off a success.

Likewise O&W. Very similar layout to the Scamp so I might well learn something.

Thanks guys. I promise to finish this one quickly

Ray, I used to think you were mostly a plans person, I was wrong.
Your Frog Speedy was really speedy, and very cool.

Scott,

Well I do have a modest collection of plans and magazines and am always happy to help someone looking for a particular design from the past.

But like most of the posters on this board, my main interest is designing, building, flying and crashing toy aeroplanes.

Starting on the wing. I plan on using ribletts like Sundancer does with his wing construction.

A gold plated building board - I like it. Makes my tatty old piece of MDF look bad

Good progress Scott.

Nice to see another FROG underway Scott. Yes indeed, classy building board!! Are you sticking to original rib spacing, scaled up? If so I think you are right about the riblets to avoid too much sag and deformation of the section. I closed the rib spacing on the Tom Tit in a bit from scale, but it still needed the riblets.

Thanks fellows.
My building board is a piece of corrugated cardboard on a cast off girls bedroom desk. I wanted to build close to the fireplace, so the Mrs. gave me a corner, . The wing rib spacing is the same as on the plan, but I will put riblets between each regular rib. Also I made ribs at the tip to help the wing airfoil.

More construction soon

Hello again, I got the wing done, uncovered it weight 37g. The landing gear is done and the fuse is ready to be assembled.

Looking good Scott, very "scale"! I take it you are going to use two servos, one on each ruddervator half, and mix them at the Tx? The first "V" tail rudder/elevator model I built many years ago, well before the days of Tx mixers, or even plug-in Rx ones, used a sliding servo, with the elevator servo driving the rudder one back and forth on wire rails. Bit of a fiddle to set up, but worked surprisingly well with no slop. Life is much easier now!

BTW did you get my PM in response to yours about vintage glider deigns?
