so you can consider 30km a attendible range with standard antennas but @ 500mw.
with the yaghi i used 200mw all the time.

Great video! What antenna are you using for your video tx and rx?

Do you have any plan for a small 4ch receiver?(maybe like the frsky tfr4: ppm+rssi+ 2 standard pwm channel).
Also interested in future rx versions...
Any chance of having side facing pins? (for in-wing mounting) Or can the existing rx be modded to take right angle connectors?

Sorry, I think the rx is so small, just 40×26×12mm.

LRS just for FPV uplink control. for plane, 9bit resolution is a good solution,(for the range, 10bit need increate tx rate, and will reduce the range). as i know some LRS, Just 8bit resolution some channel or all channel. so i dont wanna to change this, for LOS fly like helicoptor, use 2.4GHZ may good idea, most radio up to 10-12bit resolution. so LRS Just recommand for fpv long range fly...

I am flying "long" range FPV (at least longer than what you can with other systems) with helicopters and multirotors. 433Mhz systems are very good to fly also not so far away, but very close to the ground,or to fly behind light obstacles (tree, foliage) or in difficult situation (indoor, tunnels, in the woods, etc), etc..

With this machine and this way of fly, a shorter range is not a problem (you don't need 30km, just 5 max) , but an incresed resolution (10bit is enought, not many servo/radio are >10bit) will help.

If you are using an OSD PRO and have the 3 way switch for menu selection and a knob for guardian overall gain I'd love to copy your template!

I did my maiden flight today with rangelink and skywalker. The flight was great exept few failsafes (hundreds meters away from base). Something is wrong with my setup. I forgot to recalibrate RSSI meter after FW updating so keep in my mind that 65% is 100%

Skywoker FPV Lotnisko Kazimierz Biskupi 24 Mar 2012 (10 min 32 sec)

first failsafe - 1:44, second -2:30, third -3:05, fourth - 4:42, fifth which almost made me crash - 5:45, 8:34 another one ...

I haven't experianced any failsafes while flying (my second flight) with all video equipment off. At 10:10 when i detach cocpit cover (with camera) and turn right faceing it to RX antenna (which is right behind camera) RSSI meter shows -33% (on my fifth failsafe I had exact the same indication). It looks that the camera can noise RX (antenna too close). Is it possible ? or propably something else is noising or TX, RX is fault (I don't think so). I have sony 600TVL osd super had camera from securitycamera2000.

Exept of that I'm really happy with Rangelink and Sid's customer support.

Greetings
Hubert

Just did a rangetest in micromode on my X8, got about 16-18m, tried to move around stuff but didnt get more than 18m at most. Is that a bad thing? And when doing the micromode test, does the plane need to be 1-2m off the ground? I just placed my plane on a short concrete wall about 1m high.

I think the PZ0420 has noise at 443Mhz. It shouldn't really effect your RL, but you can stop the noise from getting into the rest of the system by wrapping the camera's wires through a torroid 5 times.

Can you post a picture of the layout of your plane showing gear placement?

Also, what were the other flyers at the field using? Are they on different UHF systems? Just curious.

16-18m is fine, but not really the point. The way to use micro power mode is for before/after
tests as you add more gear. You set a baseline range by just powering the Rx alone.
Then start adding FPV gear and testing again. If you suddenly see the range drop significantly,
you know you've got some noisy component on the plane that needs to be filtered, or eliminated.

Thnks h0tr0d. Sure i will upload a photo tomorrow. I was the only pilot who used uhf that day. I forgot to say that during failsafes switching to hi mode didn't help at all. It looked like the rx was totally blocked by noise (-33% like in the video). Failsafes disactivated totally randomly (as you can see in the video sometimes 0,5 sec sometimes few seconds. The endings of antena aren't fitted (only middle part is attach with ducktape) and they have could touch the camera somehow. It has to be camera because i didn't have any failsafes when i turned off the video gear.

Don't know about UHF but the PZ040 absolutely trashes my FM link. Noise is from the board itself, rather than the wires.
Interestingly, encasing it (SC2000 sell empty cases) seems to channel the noise into the ground wire, which I fixed by wrapping it 15 times around a small torroid (close to the cam). No noise now but a bit heavier

C'mon guy, it is common knowledge (or should be) that the 600tvl cam is noisy on uhf, doesnt it make sense that if your rx antenna is probably touching it that it might be the problem?

Move rc rx and antenna AWAY from any noise sources....
