Hi,
No doubt someone will try it as they have with helium and hot air balloons, man transportable rocket packs and fan packs and like they are doing with a multicopter in this thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1508918

But it is very likely the results of such a design will eventually be similar to this:
Bass o Matic (0 min 31 sec)

So don't do this at home!
Cheers,
Jim

Better solutions have already flown. Here are two examples.

I saw this fly in person and it was amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJqSt...eature=related

Another slightly cruder but functional example.
PH - Personal Helicopter (0 min 16 sec)

The problem with quads is any motor/prop/ESC failure will cause an immediate uncontrollable flip. A death sentence for a human passenger every time. The size required to lift a human would be huge. Not sure what an adequate power source would be.
Cheers,
Jim

Probably using 8 motors, you can increase confiability to a racional level.
I guess that with some kg's of lipo it would fly a few minutes, that should be enough to a good cuantity of adrenaline...

It is made by Moller. Google it. He has been ripping investors off for years with that scam.

The coaxials I posted use multiple motors to drive the rotors. This provides a degree of safety and redundancy.

One problem with the multicopter is the loss of efficiency due to the multiple small rotors. One large rotor is far more efficient than multiple small rotors of the same total area.

Five or six years ago, I was more than ready to buy one of these if they were ever released.

It never seemed to develop, and the website www.airscooter.com seems to not be very active.

The problem with the airscooter is the blades are fixed and you increase/decrease rpm to climb/descend. That means no autorotate and instant death if the motor quits.

Here is a nice real helicopter. I have seen it fly at Oshkosh and it is awesome.
