Think there will be a switch back to a simpler life of subsistence farming and ranching. The more jobs a person has to work to meet the most basic of needs, the more sense it makes to work for yourself. At some point, it's better to just cut out the middleman altogether and work directly to produce those basic goods you used to buy. The resulting reduction in measurable economic activity will finish off the economy and governments will either be reigned in or become totalitarian.

Adding 56,000 jobs last month is pretty paltry. Of course, we could go back 4 years to Bush where we were losing nearly 400,000 jobs each month.

Everything is relative, init?

Yeah it really sucked back when unemployment was 4.7 and the stock market was over 14000. Then the dems won congress because the stupid people thought bush was doing such a bad job.

I believe Bush left office in 2009 with a 28% approval rate so it was more than just "the stupid people" who thought he did such a bad job.

Actually he was doing a bad job ... but not on the economy ... the Democrats took over Congress in 2006 because of the way the wars were being handled and for crap like the Patriot Act (which the Democrats ended up maintaining and increasing after they came into power). The economy didn't start to tank untill 2007-2008

The economy has been tanking since the 70s, just in slow motion. Now it's picked up speed.

There's been no confidence in Obama since before day one. Maybe with the kiddies wearing the hemp hoodies. Stimulus was nothing but a crony bail out. Job's bill, way too little way too late. Taxing, borrow and spend out of a finical melt down will never work. Obama's college professors may have enlightened him on the way things work in the cloistered halls, but that don't play on main street. The older hemp hoodie gang need to get off the medicinal mary-jane. The sixties are over.

Anyone else remember when Dennis Hopper was doing the retirement commercials?? I knew then that they could be sold anything. DENNIS HOPPER espousing responsibility Four more years of hope?!

That "hope" must be medicinal grade too!

One must be on a "trip" to believe that the dems or Obama were responsible for the rise in unemployment spurred on by the irresponsible actions of the previous repub congress and administration. It's all the aftermath of the "Bush Prosperity". What should have crashed in 2006 was kept afloat by the crooked bankers who traded failing securities for our souls.

So what you've just showed me is the unemployment rate was 4.7% when Bush took office and 9.3% when he left office. Not bad for a "compassionate" conservative.

We can compare what the DOW was when Bush took office vs. when he left but I doubt you'd like those figures either. It's also safe to assume you'd find a way to cherry pick those numbers as well.

you're right, it wasn't Obama that got the ball rolling. It was several decades of political gaming of the financial markets.

But Pipe mentioned unemployment under Bush, and I just provided links to data. Not to mention that the real driving power isn't the President (Bush or Obama), it's Congress ... miss managed while under Republican control and driven further off the road under the Democrats.

Don't forget the Democratic mandate of 2006! Obama had it all sewed up with congress and he still screwed the pooch. We'll be getting our government health care. I don't like the government cheese, and I doubt I'm going to like the health insurance either. It's going to get cheaper?!
