I am using the Hitec x4... good for the lipos that are used on these size foamies and even slightly larger like the Telink stuff. Mid range on price, but you can do 4 at a time, that is nice. I usually charge at 3c (but is capable of more) just to give the batteries a little buffer.

I'm still confused by that. What does that mean to charge at, in this case 3c?

3c is the charge rate. For example a 2200 mah battery is 2.2 amp hour so a charge rate of 3c = 3x 2.2 = set charger for 6.6 amps.
So just substitute the 2.2 for what ever size battery you want to charge.
2200= 2.2
500= .5

Ok, that's what I thought. But isn't that harmful to the battery?

For instance, the largest battery I have is 2S 450 mah. I was advised to charge at no more than 0.4. Based off what you said, a charge rate of say 3c is 1.2 or 5c would be 2 amp. (Gens Aces 2S 450mah - per the site it says 5C charge rate acceptable)

So my biggest question is, does charging the battery at these higher rates cause damage? Should I stick with the 1c I've been using?

I just looked at the charger I have Thunder AC6 (http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html)
and it says max current of 2.2a. So with the 2200 mah battery you mentioned, I could charge that battery no faster than 1 hour, correct?

The new charge rates specified by the battery manufacturers are not supposed to harm the battery. I charge all my GensAce at 5C with no ill-effects at this point.

My opinion is that for most people, more damage is being done by leaving batteries around fully charged than by charging at more than 1c, as long as the battery is rated for it. As Madskillz indicates, my GenAce batteries are rated at 5c as are my Nanotechs. I go slightly conservative and charge at just under 4c (1.8 amps).

Of course do be careful when charging. The last thing you want to do is burn down your house.

+1... agreed on the storage part, if I know I am flying the pack(s) for the last time for a little while, I will purposely cut back my flying time so that there is 40% or left in the pack when done.

I am leaning toward a cheap charger and just use a paraboard for charging more than one pack at a time. I really want to be able to charge 6 packs at once. I plan on ordering one this weekend and i still need to place my order for 12 gens ace 2s packs.

I went with a cheap charger when i started so i could charge 6 of these little batteries at once, but when you get into the bigger stuff like the telinks or even balsa you'll want to charge 6 big batteries at once which the icharger line are great for. I'm looking into getting the 206b. Charges up to 6s batteries at up to 20 amps or one of the http://www.progressiverc.com/fma-powerlab-8.html

they charge at up to 40 amps. I'll never need a better charger than that in my entire time in the hobby i'm sure. The only thing is you need a power supply as well. Buy big, buy once

Yea i am trying to avoid having to purchase the separate power supply at the moment and i don't want to make one out of a pc power supply. I am going to get a charger that has a built in power supply and will charge at 6 amps. So that will be fine for these little packs. And my only other plane has an 1800mah 3s lipo so it can charge that one also. I am not into the big planes. Same with helis, a 450 is the biggest that i owned and never wanted anything bigger. I like the small helis and planes.

What's a paraboard? I'd like to be able to charge more than one at a time also. Is that possible with the charger I have? (Thunder AC6)
