Just flashed all 4 of my F-30As that recently came in the mail. Making the damn plug to go to the USBASP took me a while. Took me about an hour and a half to make the plug and flash all 4. No smoke and the ESCs are working great using the LazyZero flash tool and the firmware repo.

Does anybody know what protocol is used to upload new firmware via the servo signal wire? There are some alternative firmwares for usbasp which could eventually be used instead of the turnigy usb linker

Hi. I am using my flashed esc with great success for some time now thanks to this forum.
I have a question-proposal to all the software gurus over here:
As you probably know there is a great deal of development on the brushless gimbals. Is it possible to develop a firmware for normal esc so it can control the motors used on the gimbals and hook up direct to the flight controllers or whatever servo gimbal controler?
Could be a poor mans gimbal controller. Just two flashed esc instead the separate controller and the IMU.

There are two protocols. At the lowest level is the USB Linker protocol then on top of that is normal STK500v2.

Note that you don't absolutely need a Turnigy USB Linker, there is Arduino USB Linker. In fact, this is exactly what "alternative" firmware could be run on a USBASP since a USBASP is typically using an Atmel.

Yeah I know but in order to use your arduino code I need to fit all the timer registers used because I only have the ATmega8 and 16 around and the arduinos use 168 and 328 Well, that should be doable...

It should already compile small enough and would just require some small changes because the register names and values are different on the mega8. It should otherwise be compatible.

I'll look at it now to see if I can make changes to detect compiling for mega8 and adjust the register names appropriately.

hey folks.

im looking for some kind soul in the uk to flash my plush esc's for me for multirotor use.
I had a stab at flashing one of my red brick esc's by soldering the wires directly to the usbasp and the legs on the chip... and promptly fried it! so im not really wanting to do that again with what is a pretty good esc in the 1st place.

I was just going to buy the flashing tool from hk and place it directly on the chip, but I have since been told the plush have a silabs chip on and involves a different tool to flash them. and that you have to flash them with different fw as they wont accept simonk.

I will cover postage both ways of course and as payment you can either have 3 (the 4th was the one fried as mentioned above) redbrick 30a esc's, not good for multirotor use as im sure you know, but 100% fine for other uses or testing new fw or whatever.. I use them on planks and they work fine. or I will paypal you over a tenner for payment for your time.

I know its a big ask but please let me know if you can help me out. I really want them flashed but don't want to attempt it myself.

of course, if something goes wrong and the esc you are doing smokes, i wont hold you responsible at all.

thanks.

I would offer but 2 two guys esc here turning into bit of nightmare. One's on holiday or something waiting for address. Other trying to get a 2 parts resonator from RS and replace MCU, did one thats fine just one left of 8!

Going to say to you buy Arduino UNO+ LCD shield with Plush once re-flashed you'll want to adjust esc for your setup. I'll have more time later to give you rest of info needed.

or if you have MultiWii based fc you could use that to get you started but thats more

Can't be the tool. I only flash a firmware after comparing MD5 checksum. So if a file is corrupted during download, it won't be flashed.

Hello !

I have ( again ! ) a question for Simonk :
Is it possible to give you ideas to improve your firmware for non standart use ?
I do not want to waste your time.

First idea :

- Is it possible to add a mode to convert a brushless ESC into a brushed ESC ?

Second :

- Do you think it is possible to add a "tacho" function to give us on a free pin the pulses corresponding to the rpm of the brushless motor ?

Last but not least :

Don't you think it would be nice to design a ESC schematic dedicated to the SimonK firmware, with some improvements (LED control, RPM, current measurement, High voltage input, etc ) ?

I am not a specialist but I think Im able to work on the schematic and the layout.
All the files will be open source off course.
