Just been reading through this thread. How can you tell if the ESC is:

1. all nfets
2. nfets + gates
3. Alternatives?

I have a few of these 'Mystery 30A Firedragon' series, could someone enlighten me as to what is on it (FET wise, so I can try and flash it) - I will probably just solder the relevant wires straight onto the pins of the IC to flash.

Cheers

THanks for that that TC - I will try it and see - I am assuming direct wire connection to the relevant pins is ok? No pullups etc need?

Just read the text below, if you don't need it, then you don't need it.

I have just tried flashing a HobbyKing F-30A. THe spreadsheet and also the flash tool, wants to flash the bs_nfet.hex file. However, if I flash bs_nfet.hex, I do not get a 'beep'. If I flash the bs.hex file, I get a beep when it finishes flashing and I also get 'beeps' when I power it on.

Which is the correct file to use (i was under the impression, beeps = good, no beep = bad? I don't want to flash 4 of them, build a quad, only to find I have to resolder the wires and reflash them all again so any input appreciated.

(note I am using avrstudio with an avr dragon and selecting Atmega88PA as the IC to flash to)

Cheers

Hi IF,
The ESC beeps are good If you look at the numbers on your FETs and there are two different types, then you have P/N and the bs.hex is proper.

That is the thing that is confusing me. They HobbyKing F-30A all have the same number on the FETS, so I assume that they are all nfets. However, if I flash with the bs_nfet.hex I do not get any beeps, whereas if I flash with the bs.hex, I do get the beeps.

I am not talking about the mystery ESC's i posted a few posts back, but these ones:

The closest IC I can choose to flash from the AVR is 'Atmega88' - not sure why there is not an 'Atmega8'
