RTR Tug upgrade

Here is an upgrade on an RTR Tug, was called Savannah, bought from RCModels.com.
There were things that failed ( see "has anyone bought from RCModels ) thread.

The entire superstructure was re-created, only the base was retained.
Drive line fell apart, bought new from MACK models, SUPER smooth, no vibration, no leak.
7.2V motor with one BIG SLA battery for ballast, 2 lbs. copper coated lead shot in ziplocks for ballast.
Working searchlight from MACK added, working sideboard lights on the way.
Area under hawse drying rack ( rudder access ) was WIDE OPEN, I sealed it and built a new grating.
Added bitt, vent pipes, railing ( thanks Harbor ! ), new funnel, scratch water tank, tires.
Runs well, super quite, it was a platform for me to use to learn how to RC a model, it has served it's purpose well.
Now on to building my own boat 100% ....

Sounds like your original purchase was not a RTR, but a ready-to-fall-apart, Tim---.

Nice job on the redo.

Thanks Kap ...
Yes, the driveline was doomed ... hand made from scrap !
Looks more like a Tug and less like a birdhouse now.

Very nicely done remodel. Only one more thing for the tug...... it needs a bigger prop.

Thanks my friends...
Interesting observation green boat ...
You must mean easthetically ( I was able to blow the doors off that goose ) ...
I simply ordered a stuffing box from MACK and got the prop that matched up ...
I think the 1.48" is what fell into place.
I wonder if I can get a bigger prop. and have it fit correctly on that 1/8 shaft...

Yes, I meant aesthetically. Steam tugs had larger props because of the slower RPM's they turned.

Cormorant Tug

greenboat: had I been more carefull, I would have used a gearmotor with a 2" 4 blade paddle.
Longbike:The grating is from Nature Coast ( fittings in the catalogue ) 50X50mm, 6 bucks.
The rivets are just 5 minute epoxy, a nail and patience ( I like rivtes ! )
Millertime: Thanks !
woodybob: got the grating from Nature Coast ( see above ), but YOUR link has WAY better selection, I am contacting them TODAY !
