Next step is to order the motor so I know where the motor mount needs to go, as well as the speed controller.

I am going to go with the turnigy 4074-B-2000kv on (2) 3-cell 4000 to 5000mah. With the turnigy 180amp speed controller.

If you're planning to run those 3s packs in series for 6s you may want to rethink that kv figure. That's more of a 4s motor. Something in the 1500-1700kv range is much better suited for 6s.

I just looked again and your right it is a 4s motor. Thanks I would of smoked it and not known why.

If you were running the 3s packs in parallel to double up the MA and leaving voltage the same it would be fine. (maybe even a little low for 3s) But if running them in series for 6s you would need a lower kv. Anything from 1500 to 1700 shouldl be good for 6s depending on how much prop you plan to run..
With a bigger boat like that you will be better off with the higher voltage and lower kv motors.

4082 or 4092?

A lot will depend on what you want it to do and keep in mind I have no real experience with Leopards. With a small prop (642-645) the 4082 1600 would be my choice for 6s. For more prop (452-455) The 4092 1390kv would be a better option. Try to stay with the Y winds since they run cooler.

Mostly Neu's and Castle's. Trying a pair of the HET 700-68 edf motors in my current Cheetah build. I've used the HET's in edf's many times with good results so decided to make a pair water cooled and see how it goes.

is the turnigy 180 an ok speed controller to run the leopard motor on 6s? I'd like to run 4s and 6s eventually. Or should I not waste the $80 on it and put out the extra for the castle 240 ice which I think is $250.00.

The T180 is an excellent budget esc. I have a few of them in use myself. One that ran a Castle 1717 on 6s in my Sprintcat until I replaced the motor with a Neu 1527 to get better run times. (same esc still in use).
There's one in my 54" Arapaho driving a Leopard 5692 1000 kv (my only Lep motor) on 6s. Two more in the Cheetah I'm building.
There was a couple in the DF Explorer when I sold it. There was a couple in my old Expresscraft Thunderbolt when I sold it.

ok so it sounds like I will be just fine with that esc. Alright bill i've made up my mind i'm going with a leopard. I will look into which 40mm can I should get. If i remember correctly you told me to stay away from the D wind.

ok after days of looking at specs and comments from everyone and videos of motor/esc setups, I have come to a conclusion. I will run a leopard 4082/2Y 1600KV motor with a turnigy 180amp esc on 4s first and work my way up to 6s. I am going to stay in the range of octura props x445 and x447 2 blade.

That should work out OK. The 447 will most likely be your prop of choice.

Have you bought the ESC yet? fightercat is selling off their 6S 300A esc's for 65$ or so, you could buy two for the price of the castle, they work well just keep the timing low.
